Hello all,

My name is John and I am a Brit living in NC. I am looking forward to learning more from all of you and hopefully helping others myself in future.

My journey here:
  • A year ago I put up three arlo cameras outside, and an arlo baby cam. I am not happy with the performance of them.
  • Recently started adding smart home functionality around the house (bulbs, sensors, etc). This meant setting up a dedicated switch. Which led me to...
  • ... look at arlo alternatives.
  • looked at Synology and their smart security offering
  • kooked at a reolink bundle (in particular the 8 cam package)
  • looked at hikvision and dahua - dont know much about them
  • which led me down the rabbit hole of NVRs and poe switches
  • which led me to Blue Iris.
Now thinking the best way forward would be a dedicated server running BI, a POE switch, and a load of cameras.

Anyway, I guess this thread is supposed to be for introductions - not requests for help, so I'll end this ramble here, and hit the forums.

Thanks for the kind welcome! I have emailed Andy for some Dahau prices. I wish there was a bundle option for a few starlight cameras with their DVR. I am all for Blue Iris, but with a newborn in the house my time for projects is very limited.
