Hi all

I'm looking at buying a few IP cams and there is choice between H.264 and H.265 models.
When going for H.265, shouldn't the NVR also work with this standard?

The reason I ask this is because they only seem to have NVR's that decode H.264.

TIA!

The general rule of thumb is to not mix manufactures when using an NVR. Get the cameras and NVR from the same manufacture, or you will loose functionality in the camera. Also do not mix international and Chinese hacked equipment from the same manufacture, They may not work together. NVR are limited in processing power, Buy a bigger NVR than you think you need. So if you need an 8 camera NVR, get a 16 camera NVR. Also look at the camera resolution that it can process, for example an NVR may process 4 1080P cameras but only 1 8k camera

Post specific manufacture model number of the NVR and of the Cameras.

Most newer NVRs support H.265.

Do not waste your money on Reolink crap. There are 100's of posts on this forum about problems with reolink. Reolink cameras do not work well at night or with motion.

Hi SouthernYankee!
I'm looking at Reolink for cams as NVR as well but not sure what models yet.

Welcome @Nick6

Decide what you want the security cameras to do for you first.

Then start to look for a product which comes closest to meeting those needs.

For Reolink, before you jump .. read the following:
