Empiretech software?

I've done that and it's working in BI but the substream is set to 'none' and when I set to default (same as main) it just goes back to none.

You don't make it default. Are you sure it is substream when set to none - that should mean you are running mainstream only.

Yours should look like this:

And that is why I said in Post #20 to hit the find/inspect and let BI do its thing....

You did say that. I thought I had done it.

Regarding DMSS: I've tried numerous times to add the camera and it's not found. Everything is on the same subnet.

I've got cameras from Reolink, annke, and now EmpireTech. Is there an app (other than the $13 BI app) that would allow for all of these cameras to be added? They all seem to have proprietary apps.

Are you running BI? If not the BI app will be useless and not work.

If you are running BI, the UI3 that is native to BI is free and runs on a browser and most here use that instead of buying the app.

Otherwise you would have to try one of the free ones like SecurityEye

How are you trying to add the camera in DMSS. With recent changes it may need to be done via the serial number instead of IP.

I'm running BI and was thinking about the web based option rather than the app. Ideally, I'd like to be able to access the memory onboard the individual cameras too though.

DMSS, I've added the camera via SN both manually and by QR code. It doesn't seem to find it on the network for some reason.

I've not tried securityeye but I'm open to trying. I just tried adding the new cam to the annke app but no dice.

In that case, yeah for most cams only the manufacturer app will gain access to the camera SD cards. The BI app won't let you access the SD card either.

Maybe try blowing the cache out on the app?

I keep deleting the app entirely so I assume the cache goes with it. I suppose the SD access isn't as critical, to be honest.

Question re. viewing Playback on the Empiretech NVR ...
I can go to yesterday on the camera.
I can click on the slider bar to select the start time (23:30).
Only after that, not before, I can click on the pop-up and choose Human, Motor Vehicle or Animal.
(It grays-out that pop-up if I haven't first set a time - 00:00 or another, e.g. 23:30.)
What is it supposed to do when I click on "Animal" - trigger an audible alarm when an animal is spotted during replay?

For viewing cameras in my house, I use an Ubuntu app called cctv-viewer. There are others like it, including VLC, and a raspberry pi viewer I've seen here, but the name escapes me. These won't do you much good for viewing outside your house unless you setup a vpn with a remote desktop app.

When I first got a couple of cameras, I used dmss for a few weeks until I got to understand them a little, but after that, I bought Blue Iris, which brings everything together. The UI3 app wittaj mentioned is a fantastic remote viewer, and when you set it up with a vpn (tailscale) and a notification app (Pushover), it will keep you in touch with your system wherever you go.
