DS-2CD2542FWD-IS two way audio not working

I have three 3-year-olds and decided to buy some IP cameras with two way audio and reasonable night vision. The DS-2CD2542FWD-IS seemed ideal so I bought that.

My issue is that I can hear audio from the camera end but pressing the two way audio button and speaking into the computers microphone (yes, it is switched on and selected as the default audio input) fails everywhere I have tried:
- In the camera's live view (http://ip)
- In EZViz and iVMS-4500
- On an android phone or tablet
- On OSX and Windows Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari

The firmware is V5.3.8 build 151224 which matches the version printed on the back of the camera.





Anybody have any ideas?

Really? I couldn't find that info anywhere... would that get the audio via the alarm audio plug?

The speaker would be plug into the audio out.

Any preference on a "powered" speaker without using an amp? Hikvision reps have given me no direction and i am running into the same issue....
