difference between arming schedule and recording schedule

Tbh it sounds perfectly obvious at the outset, record schedule is when you want a certain item recorded and arm schedule when you want the camera on or off ( i guess ) but i am having issues, if i set record schedule with smart event between 12am and 7 am and between 4pm and midnight and a basic event ( motion detection ) between 7 am and 4 pm i continue to get motion detection active and recorded with smart detection ?? even though the recording schedule is not set for motion detection

basically all night i want smart event ( intrusion detection ) due to headlight intrusions
and all daylight hours i want motion detection recorded

do i change the arming schedule to match the recording schedule ?? in my view it should not matter and arming should be left 12am - 12-am 7 days a week no matter what event

Or as i seem to be finding is it a firmware issue with 150929 v3.4.0
so far i have found the NVR cannot send emails, VH is not working from outside the lan using the web gui, some of the cameras listed events are also not surfaced in the web gui, IR not working
