I'm looking to replace a NV4116-HS with a 5xxx series NVR, mostly because I hit the 80Mbps limit (guess I should have planned better). I see under different brands there are 5200, 5400 and now 5800 series. The last two digits indicate the number of channels it can support, but are there hardware differences between the different 5xxx series? Or is it just the firmware which is running? I see Andy sells the NVR5432-4KS2 32. Is this better than a NVR5232-4KS2? Is there any reason to try to by a 58xx?

You can see the specific specs on the Dahua website.

Biggest difference between the 52/54/58 series is the number of hard disk drives it can handle. So, with that in mind at NVR5232 will accept 2 drives. A NVR5434 wil accept 4 drives. And a NVR5832 will accept 8 drives. In order to get RAID capability, I believe you need to go to the NVR608 series which all accept 8 drives. Other than that, the firmware for the NVR52/54/58 series is the same.

To answer your question, the only difference between the NVR5232 and the Nvr5432 is 2 drives or 4 drives. They both will accept up to 32 cameras, and the rest of the specs like incoming bandwidth (320 Mps) are the same. Note the 54 has 2 Ethernet ports while the 52 only has 1. And, there are some back panel port/connection differences, too.

Bottom line, take @looney2ns advise and go to Dahua's Intl. site and see for yourself.

This is very helpful. I wasn’t able to figure that out from the Dahua website. Also, it wasn’t clear which differences were firmware or hardware.

If you are not downloading the PDF Datasheet from Dahua's Intl. Site, you should be. The Datasheet is where you will find all the specs you will need. Almost every Dahua product has one.

There will likely be almost no differences firmware wise or user interface wise. The download for firmware is the same for both the 52 and 54 series NVR's.
