Is there a better way to review/show/display recent footage recorded in a Dahua NVR? I found SmartPSS Lite is pretty bad with playback of recorded footage. You can't simply/quickly find an recent event and play it, you need to go to playback, search for a time period, then dig the events from there. The web interface of the NVR is just as bad.

The mobile app DMSS for Android is reasonably decent for this, still requires a lot of taps from a pop up notification to be able to play the clip. I wish I could replicate this behaviour on a computer with web interface of SmartPSS lite, but it seems impossible.

Any thoughts how to make reviewing recent footage on a computer quicker/easier would be much appreciated.

I run Blue iris alongside the Clunky NVR. Saves a boatload of time seeking and playing files. It seems as though the software companies with average cam specs are polishing thier Apps and making them appear easier. and then comes the subscription paywall to get the features your after.

I use the mobile app to review events quickly. I use it on Android. I just slide down when I get a notification, click the event and it goes right to the event. When I click back, it takes me to the event list to review other recent events.

I also have a Blueiris, I've beee using it for the last 2 years+, but it needs Windows, cannot run in Linux, the client web app is pretty mediocre, I need a VPN to connect back to it remotely, the Android app is useless (the paid version). I eventually went to Scrypted, much nicer, but I pay subscription of $10 per camera per year. I'm testing a Dahua NVR here because I need something rock solid to put at a remote location, that can never go wrong due to a Windows update, or Codeproject AI, or the Coral TPU decided to bug out, etc... I was just hoping for a better end user experience. The Android app is not bad, but not intuitive at all, but the SmartPss Lite is an atrocity, horrible way to navigate recordings, to check what happened it takes me so much effort that I rather not do it. Scrypted allows me to see any notification from my drawer notification with a snapshot, I don't even need to play the video or open the app, but I pay for the priviledge.

Do you mean the app from the google play store, not the web progressive app (getting web browser to "install" locally? I tried to use a while ago, but it was so bad... Also it will not work remotely without VPN, right? I would not dare to open ports to reach the Blueiris server remotely from the public internet.

Turn off ALL Windows and BI updates and use the camera AI instead of CodeProject and Coral and the PC will run just as well as an NVR that is never updated...

You will find there is no perfect solution, so decide which is more important and go with that.

Or do as many here and run multiple and use each one for their strength.
