Dahua ip cam via web browser

Hi folks.

New member here...Nick...hope you're all doing ok.

I've had two or three relatively cheap and cheerful chinese outdoor ip cams for a few years...they have slightly different brand names but I suspect they all come from a similar place/factory/manufacturer because they have an almost identical, slightly clunky, web interface. After one gave up the ghost and after reading some discussions on here I decided to try one of the better-known brands and got myself a Dahua IPC-HFW2449S-S-IL.

My use-case is to have each camera always recording video on their sdcard, be able to go back a week or so and review any given time period, and now and then I also check the live view if I might want to see what's going on at that moment.

To access the cameras I've been using my regular browser: Firefox. I have bookmarks to each camera's IP, and while the old cameras do prompt for a login for every new browser session, I just click on OK because I have those credentials saved in Firefox. With the Dahua, I'm finding the web gui never triggers Firefox to offer to save the login credentials. I tried adding/saving the login credentials manually into Firefox's database but the Dahua login just ignores it and asks for the login credentials every single time I want access, even in the same browser session. Anyone manage to get around that? I see that I can enable a thing called anonymous login in the dahua settings, which gives access to live view without having to log in but I would rather have it password-protected.

I use the free version of the Bitwarden extension on Firefox, I have not tried "auto fill" but with one click Bitwarden does reliably fill in the log-in credentials.

Hi. Thanks for your feedback...I had been puzzled about not receiving any answers until now. Looks like that addon has some good reviews, so I'm considering whether fixing this strange Dahua problem really justifies changing the way I manage my passwords on my browser. I'm leaning towards no.

Having guessed no one uses the http engines built into their cameras on a daily basis like I did, it got me thinking about alternatives and so I have since installed and started using an NVM engine instead which consolidates the live views of all my cameras into one screen in my browser using ONVIF and naturally it doesn't require typing in a password every time you want access. I imagine that's the sort of solution most here are using.

IP security cameras seem like such a hodgepodge of arbitrary competing standards and quirky designs to me but better that than nothing, I suppose. ¯\(ツ)/¯
