cpu usage on latest version

I have seen that blue iris service does not take much cpu when we are seeing multiple cameras in groups with lower resolution sub stream.

However the cpu spikes considerably only when we click the camera ans see the high resolution main feed. IS this behaviour expected ?

Yes the CPU demand will be higher because you are now using the mainstream instead of substream.

How much it spikes is computer dependent.

I thought it was my NEW HP - I am set up to RETURN right now, because it is running so hot (180-190F) but cools of to 113F with B.I. shut down.
I just bought a HP EliteDesk 800 G4 SFF Desktop PC, Intel Core i7-8700 3.20GHz, 32GB DDR4, 1TB SSD, WiFi, BT, Windows 10 Professional.
Put in a 12T HHD and purchased a new BI 5.8.0.11x64 and installed it.
WIth the B.I. 5 open it runs hot 180-190F and fan is screaming. and 113F with BI closed. -

I am replacing my - HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Small Form Desktop Computer Tower PC (Intel Quad Core i5-4570, 16GB Ram, 240GB / Solid State SSD, WIFI) Win 10 Pro running B.I. 5.2.9.23x64 and it runs fine (about160F - very low fan speed ) I have been running for about 5 years no problems, but I am taxing it with these new dual-lens POE cameras.

I just found out it is the Blue Iris making it run so hot (using the same setting as the older one).
I am going to have to use less CPU I have always used the mainstream instead of the substream.
Maybe that is the answer?
Although is is only using 38% of the CPU
 
Run the substreams and you should be fine, even with the 4th gen you have. If substreams resulted in less performance and missed critical things, none of us would be using it.
