Hi Guys,

I am trying to get the free version of Milestones xprotect essential to connect over the internet using the mobile app. I have got it to work in the past on a previous version which I paid for but now I just get this error message within the iOS app.

I am using the latest version of xprotect essential 2017 and I have activated it using a free licence.

Do they want me to pay for a licence before they will let me use their app over the internet?

Many thanks for any help!

Does it only work on local network?

Do you have a port forward or a VPN?

Yes only works on local network at the moment.

I am port forwarding 8081.
Are you sure that the xprotect uses port 8081?
There is a chance that a firewall in router is blocking it.

+ I don't recommend to use port forwarding. VPN is more secure way to connect.

I have turned off the firewall.

I am pretty sure it's connecting fine, I just need to know how to enable 'smart connect'.

Smart connect is a dynamic dns service for milestone...I believe you need to pay for it as part of a service package...but you should not have to use it....likely you have something improperly setup with respect to port forwarding...check all your settings again.

I can connect to the smart client through a web browser over the internet, I think the ports are forwarded correctly.
