Hi All,

Took delivery of a DS-2CD2332-I yesterday.

The image is amazing compared to my Axis cameras.

However, I'm struggling with the resolution.

It obviously has 3 options:

1280x720
1920x1080
2048x1536

Its got a 2.8mm lens.

I want to be able to see the entire image which the camera can capture/see, and I also don't want any distortion in the image... and ideally 16:9 or 16:10

Is this possible?

What do other people have theirs set to?

2048x1536 will give you the clearest (highest resolution) image, but it will be 4:3 aspect ratio. You can make it display in 16:9 but it will distort things a bit (though in my opinion, it still looks good). If you're really set on 16:9, then your best bet is to go with 1920x1080. Won't have as many pixels (thus it won't be as clear as it can possibly get), however it will display 16:9 with no distortion.

Hello.

Hikvision 3MP cameras give you two different options for the aspect ratio of the video.

2048x1536 is the only mode that gives you a 4:3 aspect ratio, and as wxman said, it gives you the highest resolution and the most detailed image.

1920x1080 is a 16:9 aspect ratio. It is a few degrees wider horizontal field of view and a few degrees narrower vertical field of view. It also has 2/3 the pixels, but the difference in image quality might not be as much as you think. There is evidence suggesting the Hikvision camera is upscaling a bit to reach 2048x1536. For more information, see this thread: http://www.cam-it.org/index.php?topic=4248 -- the 10th post contains images that compare the field of view.

1280x720 is the same aspect ratio and same field of view as 1920x1080, so there is little reason to choose it.

How do I get 16:9 in the highest res, when I'm connecting to the RTSP stream?
Simply choose 1920x1080 mode in the camera's video encoding settings, and then the RTSP stream will be 16:9 at the highest available resolution (for that aspect ratio).
