I want to use Continuous recording but I don't want to have to go through all the video to find where something has happened. Will using Continuous recording using Direct to Disk give me those marks or will I have to configure Motion alerts also?

If you do not have it configured for motion alerts, then yes you will have to scrub through all the video to find motion. Just leave it as continuous and set up trigger alerts so that they show up in the timeline.
