Been a long time lurker here for sometime now studying which cameras to purchase. Going to be using the Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z) outdoors over the driveway and back yard. Awaiting the arrival of the first one now from Andy. Need some help on the indoor cameras, need something low profile and that looks aesthetically pleasing but gets the job done. Thinking either the Mini-Dome 3.6mm (IPC-HDB4231C-AS) or the Mini IR Wedge 3.6mm (IPC-HDBW4231F-AS). Which would be a better application in my living room which is approximately 18'x18'. The main job of this camera is mostly keeping an eye on the dogs and capturing anyone that might happen to make it through the door.

For me, one of the bigger factors would be the mini dome not having IR. As dark as my house is inside, that would be a deal breaker for me.

Read nayr's review on the one without IR. Clearly, the IPC-HDBW4231F-AS is the winner, you'll hardly know its there, lol :)

@nayr recommends the model with the IR cut built into it. Just be sure to select the correct lens for your needs :)
Can you send me a link to that review? I don't see the "F-AS" model searching with my iPhone.

Thanks,

R

2.8mm for the front door?

I think you can get these in 3.6mm or 6mm. I would go for 6mm if you could get one as you are only after face id but a 3.6mm may be ok. Depends on the front door view.

A bit off from the door.

All thanks for the helpful advise. Once is get the turret cam installed this weekend I'm going to proceed with ordering a couple of the wedge cams for indoors and the front doorway.
