Blue Iris and Minimum Upload Speed - For Playing Alerts Remotely

Greetings everyone...from Frosty North Bend WA where we still have over 3 feet of snow on the ground!

I have a Blue Iris install operating at a new property we intend to build on, and pretty much everything works fine using UI3.

But, whenever I go to play an alert or a clip I get the orange clock symbol and the clip just never wants to play. Sometimes it will sit there (seemingly stuck) and I have to close the widow and log back in. Sometimes the login is also very slow to respond.

I checked my upload speed and it's actually quite low (3.91 Mbps), so I already know that it could be better. But my question is, does this matter when playing back clips? Is there a minimum UP speed required? The other confusing part is that I can actually stream all six cameras (through UI3) at the 4K setting and it works just fine. But whenever I go to play a clip it just hangs up.

Now..I've also tried to take the quality down to the lowest setting, but that does not seem to make a difference either.

Anyone else experienced this? I'm hoping bp2008 will read this and let me know his thoughts too. :wave:

I just setup Blue Iris for a business in my town. Their upload varies between 3-4 Mbps like yours. When reviewing clips or live view I have seen this orange clock symbol but it goes away and works fine. Maybe there is something else going on with your system. Even when I was testing this on my home internet with 1 Mbps up it didn't react like yours. With that said, what resolution are you trying to view this at? I found that it has no problems at 720p.
 
What kind of internet connection is running at the "new property", I wonder if upload and latency might be some of the problem. It could also be something simple like the computer hard drive clips are stored on is going to sleep, so check your power saving options.
What are the specs of the computer running at that remote location, in UI3 you have the handy server stats in the bottom LEFT, any indications of low FPS or high CPU there?
I know I watch streams all the time at my work desk and even frequently over mobile internet, and use the JPEG HD option mostly because it seems more consistent (purely a personal impression) than the 2MP or 4MP video options.
 
slow speeds would not cause the issue described. If you have an antivirus setup, disable it and test. Also if you have an DDOS protection enabled on your router disable to test.
 
Thanks fenderman, I tried both tests and it's still exhibiting the same behavior. Another piece of info...when I hover the mouse over the thumbnails for the alerts, they also pause/hang UI3. In some cases, if I hover over the thumbnail and leave the cursor on top of it for a while, it will eventually show the preview (the larger animating window that pops up over the thumbnail). At some point if I've kept the mouse over the thumbnail long enough, it seems to cache the frames from the preview and will display them smoothly. But no matter what, whenever I click to bring up the Alert to full screen, it just hangs there.

What browser are you using?
Does this occur with the BI mobile app as well?
 
I'm using chrome and it works silky smooth with my other 2 installs, so I know that's working.

And yes, it does the same thing on the Mobile App. If I click on an alert, it just continuously shows the spinning progress wheel, and never displays anything. I can get back to the main "Cameras" view, but the clips don't play

try unchecking "also bvr" on one of the cameras video tab in BI. Then try to playback that cam.
 
additionally, when you say you set the quality down to the lowest setting did you do that in the webserver tab, limit bitrate? if so what birate.
 
Just so I am clear...we are talking about the "Web server - Advanced" window right? In that window I've clicked on the configure button and tried settings all the way down to 128 kbps. No effect I'm afraid.

Is the implication Intel HA should be selected in BI general settings and in each camera too?

Just want to be sure cause I thought the optimization tips said only necessary to set in the BI general settings (don't recall the specific tab name).

You dont need to set it for each camera as the default per camera setting is "default".
