Blue Iris and Deepstack on Windows 11 - many issues

I had recently added some comments to another thread but thought I'd start my own to comment on my experiences with Win11.

I upgraded to Win 11 last year on a Ryzen 3400 with GTX 970 running with deepstack gpu and all the latest drivers.

Issues:
Memory leaks - would need rebooting every day (16GB ram installed) as the memory usage creeped up.
Constant crashes and restarts (hourly) - windows would dump 1.2Gb file into memory.dmp every time.
Losing connection via RDP/lan.

Tried cleaning my disks, running scan checks and file fixes etc.

Something was not right with Win11 running BI, deepstack gpu and AITool imo.

This weekend I did a fresh install of Win 10, BI and deepstack gpu.

It is all running rock solid now - no apparent issues.


Has anyone else experience ill effects of running win11 with BI and deepstack gpu?

Vista - Bad
Win7 - Good
Win8 - Bad
Win10 - Good
Win11 - ?

Not saying Windows 11 can't be good, but based on the track record I won't be an early adopter. Don't fix what ain't broke.

Yep if you follow the trend 11 is one to miss perhaps. May take a couple of years to develop or be scrapped for Win12!! Lol

The corporate world never even adopted Win8. Went straight from Win7 to Win10... I played a prank once on an intern and pulled the hard drive from his PC and put a different one with Win8 beta on it. He ran with it for a couple weeks before giving up, so I gave his old drive back.

All true, but you left out the underappreciated/misunderstood child, Windows 2000 Pro. It came out just before XP (by about a year), but it never got the love it deserved, as it was quite clean and stable, it just wasn't marketed to home users.
It does break the (generally true) cycle though...

We used Win200/Pro both at home and where I worked. I thought it was targeted for business use, especially higher end graphics environments but could be wrong about that. If it was, it's outside the regular Win "progression" loop.

That's why I quietly left it, and Win95 out (along with NT).

Win95 was good and so was the next OS. NT was for business and I'm torn between saying it sucked (no plug and play driver support) or was good (expanded usefulness in network environments). I ran Win 2000 which was excellent, kind of the combination of the best aspects of Win98 and Win NT, but intended for business use.

Bought Windows ME- ( not popular)
given a copy of 2000 Pro from Microcenter geek (Solid)
Never bought Xp. (good) Never got a hold of an XP Machine.
Bought Vista - Liked it ( i know right?)
Bought Vista Ultimate ( I'm a sick Mofo)
Bought Vista 32Bit Pro to upgrade the 3 Dell Restaurant Pc's out of the XP era to Vista to 7 LOL, ( fun weekend) /NOT
Bought nearly every flavor 7 in Dell OEM Recovery CD's,,, Win 7 Home, Pro, Ultimate, 32/64 bit disc's from ebay to install on Dell's
Bought 7 Home
Bought 8 Pro.
Upgraded 8 Pro to 10 Pro
Upgraded 7Pro on Dell's to 10 Pro.
Bought 10 Home, Switched 1 dell laptop from 7 Home to 10 Home.
running W11 and Blue Iris 5.4.9 something on i7-8700 as a test with 7 RSTP streams from a Amcrest DVR.

Please keep us posted on all your experiences running BI on Windows 11, as an early adopter you can help the rest of us. Obviously it isn't a popular option right now, and many BI users seem to be having issues, but it might eventually become a nearly unavoidable OS "choice" in a few more years.

I'm observing slower times for deepstack 2022.01. 110ms instead of 55 that I had before on the older version of deepstack.

Could it be because I have not got the cuDNN files in Program Files/CUDA?
I recall moving those the first time I set deepstack GPU up.

I see my CUDA has been installed in : C:\Program Files\NVIDIA GPU Computing Toolkit\CUDA\

Has anyone got the thread that details the installation please? Can't seem to find an official pinned thread for this.

Update: a fellow member here gave me the link for the deepstack 2021 version.
Uninstalled 2022 and reinstalled the older version

Speeds now twice as fast!! Back to 55ms!!

New version was not working well for me either - no errors just slow processing

Having another issue with a driver - Multimedia Controller. AMD Ryzen desktop.
Can't seem to update this driver and PC freezes every 36 hours or so. Look related to this

Update: I've just disabled the driver for now to observe the behaviour
