I would like to setup a surveillance system with 32 2MP@30FPS Dahua Starlight cameras .

Could BI reliable handle 32 cameras @ 30 FPS with motion detection rules defined on all cams?

If yes what kind of CPU, Mainboard, GPU should I use to build my VMS server?

I have found few older threads connected to my question but these don't give a clear answer to my question:

Hardware for a 30+ IP Camera setup
36 IP Cams Blue Iris Setup Notes
High CPU Useage on 22 Camera build system

etc...

you dont need 30fps....
at 15fps it can easily handle that load with a modern i7
see wiki for blue iris hardware

The wiki has not aswered my question.
I've found the following info about the CPU:

Best performance: i7-8700K

And this about the FPS:

It is recommended to use frame rates of 15 FPS or lower, as beyond about 15 FPS there is little meaningful improvement in video smoothness compared to the additional processing costs.

So can BI reliable handle 32 2MP cameras @ 30 FPS with motion detection on a PC with i7-8700K?

maybe...if you are a stickler for 30 fps for no reason then you can be the first to test...

Why are you so focused on 30fps? Have you looked at any videos that demonstrate frame rates from 5fps and up? The difference between 15 and 30 is hard to see and requires double the disk space. There are also calculators that will show you the amount of storage space needed at "x" resolution and "y" fps. Unless you have an insurance requirement, forget the 30fps and go with 15fps. I suspect that BI can handle that camera and frame load with no problem with a decent processor. The real restriction is the processor versus resolution and frame rate, not BI.

Is i7-8700K enough or do I need something with more cores like i9-7980XE?
15FPS vs 30FPS: the human eyes can not see a lot of information an image can contain...

again you are not filming a movie...15fps is way more than enough...most professional installations have less than 10fps...30fps is an amateur setting unless you are installing in a casino and in that case you should not be using blue iris...
you want a processor with hardware acceleration...see wiki again.

I'll ask again...HAVE YOU LOOKED AT ANY VIDEOS THAT COMPARE FRAME RATES! You're not watching TV or a movie, you're trying to gather security information and that will eventually end up as a still frame, ZERO FPS!!!!!!!

Ok, I understand that 15fps is more than enough if there isn't any fast moving object on the screen...
But could someone answer my question?

it probably can there are many variables...you will not get any guarantees....get it and let us know..worst case you will suffer with the horrors of 15fps...if you would have actually read the wiki you would have seen the link to real world performance data.

Thank you!
I've found that link and I've already checked the specs of the systems running 30+ cams.
