BI direct-to-wire issue

I'm running BI 5.6.9.7 (latests as of 2/3/23). I have the Direct-To-Wire option configured on my cameras which are recording to the BVR format. When i try playing back clips in the web interface on a profile that is configured with Direct-to-wire, it won't play it. It just sits there and spins and i have no idea why. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Are the cameras set to h.264?

yes on h.264 They are Hikvision's running at 8mp, 20fps, 20 keyframe, 12 Mbps bit rate, h.264
