ASUS Router firewall slowing down connection

As title says, if I disable the basic firewall on my router (RT-N66U), the app loads very quickly. If it is enabled, then everything slows way down. Specifically it maybe related to the DDOS production. I have port forwarding enabled for Blue Iris and I don't see how to keep the firewall enabled on the ASUS router without slowing everything down.

This is BI 4.8.6.3.

Any ideas all?
 
Yes, does your cameras run through the router. The BI PC and the cameras do not run directly through the router. The BI PC and Cameras are connected to a switch, the switch is connected to the router. The simple rule no local traffic through the router. No Wifi cameras.

Thanks for the reply man.

Cameras and BI computer are not directly connected to the ASUS router it's only acting as an interface with the cable modem and the UniFi switch. The ASUS is connected to a UniFi switch which is connected to my Wifi APs. the UniFi APs are what are actually connecting to the IP Cams.

Yes there's an old post on the forum that discusses this problem with Asus DDOS. I don't believe it's an issue with the newer Asus routers. You should strongly consider using VPN instead of port forwarding.

Ah, well i will have to search for that. I have been living with a sluggish BI for a while and had just accepted my fate.

Can you point me to something I can study to better understand what you mean by using a VPN over port forwarding? Is the performance better or is it primarily security related?

It is strange that the ASUS firewall being on or off affects the performance of the BI, if no traffic is going through the asus router.
1) What is the model number of the UniFi switch?
2) What are the model number of the UniFi AP?
3) Does the Unifi switch have wifi built in ?
4) How many wifi cameras do you have connected to the access points ?
5) Are the access points hardwired to switch ?
6) Are all the wifi cameras on the same SIDD and wifi channel.
7) is the asus router using asus software or DD-WRT freeware ?
