Curious what models people are using to control their PTZ cameras and if you are using USB input versus RS485, network control via CAT5/6, etc..

This Dahua joystick seems to have both RS485 and USB as well as network control but I can't tell if it works on other cameras besides Dahua's or not. There should be some sort of univesral joysticks.

I too am curious about this topic. I think I read somewhere that you can use any DirectX compatible joystick with a Windows machine running Blue Iris but I haven't looked into it yet. Ultimately I would like to have a PTZ with a joystick to control it but that is still a long ways off for me.

I'm following this thread to as I'm about to build my own system and I'm including a POE PTZ cam with an NVR so I'm interested in how I can control my PTZ, I'd like to be able to watch it on the TV and control it with a physical joystick as opposed to software or ipad/iphone. I don't think the PTZ has RS485 input so I'm hoping I can run a joystick into the NVR maybe by USB port?

Are you building a Windows system?

I'm curious if anyone has tried to use an XBOX controller for their PTZ cams or not.

With NVR and VMS software like Milestone Xprotect, you can use a regular USB joystick. I currently am trying to get a Mayflash arcade stick (PC042) working with Xprotect but so far it only allows me to assign functions to the buttons and not the joystick itself on Windows 10, but it may be a driver issue. I haven't fully tested yet to see if the joystick works fully on Win 10 and the drivers on the website are kind of a joke, as well as the whole site. If I can't get it to work, I might just order an XBox controller to try it but I'm curious if anyone else has already.

Update: Looks like someone has already:

Kind of interesting (old story where some security place started using Xbox controllers for PTZ cameras and compared them against regular PTZ joysticks:

I am using a Dahua NKB3000. It has a wireless connection while I am in the house and rj45 in my mobile unit.
It set it up to connect to my nvr via router so I am able to bring up all my cams at once.
I am able to use it for my other PTZ that is not Dahua.

I am trying to setup NBK1000 via USB, using SmartPSS application. USB driver is from Dahua wiki, but will not install with Win10 OS. When opening devices in SmartPSS, the joystick is not recognized.
