Am I doing this right?

I've read the Cliff Notes and the overview of "what not to do". I set up my cameras for remote viewing and just want to make sure that I'm not doing anything dumb.

I'm running Blue Iris on a Dell OptiPlex 3040, and I installed SoftEther VPN. It seems that I have to forward the UDP ports 500 and 4500, but other than that, I have no ports forwarded. I've also disabled UPnP. I then use my Android phone to connect remotely to the VPN so that I can view Blue Iris over my phone's data plan.

Is this OK?

Thanks.

Is this an inbound or outbound vpn. ?
There are two types of vpns inbound and outbound.

It looks like an outbound vpn, it hides your outbound activity on the internet. Wrong type of VPN.
Look at openvpn.
Your VPN needs to be able to connect from a remote tablet, phone, laptop to your home network.
Read study plan.

Thanks bigredfish. I'll be honest- I tried to use OpenVPN, but it was too hard for me to understand with regards to certificates and everything. SoftEther was much simpler. Just wanted to make sure that I was not doing something dumb.
