I just noticed that Windows 10 runs a service called "Alljoyn Router" that is supposed to allow IoT devices to communicate. This seems like a bad idea.

I disabled it and of course there was no effect. What I don't understand is why pc's would ever need to participate in IoT network traffic?

Well at this point the short answer would be TBA, I think you will see in the not so near future devices ready for this, IM sure Microsoft and 3rd party vendors are working on home automation and IOT devices, that being said to answer your question the service itself is a "Trigger Service" and at this point does nothing until something triggers it be it IP address or a host of other ways to turn it off and on. I think you will see it utilized in the future when the latest Home helpers and IOT devices start hitting the market using this platform. I have read that some devices like AC units and humidifiers and already using this to talk to each other using this, so smart home here we come.
