More just wondering, but why are there no 8MP eyeballs/turrets? There's domes and bullets...
Or are there and I'm just not seeing them?

Looking for an eyeball equivalent of the DH-IPC-HDBW2831T-ZS

dahua has a bunch, but they have smaller 1/2.5 sensors.
Hikvision has a turret with a 1/2 sensor.

Thanks, Fenderman.
So, you don't know of some sort of technical reason why the DH-IPC-HDBW2831T-ZS is not available in a turret design? They maybe think it wouldn't sell?

Looks like the best HikV 8MP turret has these light specs. It's a 1/2.5" sensor:
Minimum Illumination Color:
0.01 lux @ (F1.2, AGC ON)
0 lux with IR; color: 0.014 lux @ (F1.4, AGC ON)
0 lux with IR

The Dahua equivalent (non-turret) which is 1/1.8" sensor:
0.004Lux/F1.9( Color,1/3s,30IRE)
0.09Lux/F1.9 Color,1/30s,30IRE)
0Lux/F1.9(IR on)

Not sure how to compare these sensitivity numbers since HikV cam doesn't state the values being at a particular shutter speed like Dahua does.
If HikV's camera's .014 lux rating is for color @1/3s, then not nearly as good as the Dahua...but again, don't know how to compare. Something tells me the Dahua numbers are much better though.

It's a Hikvision though ! Personally I'll be staying away from them, nowt but trouble

Yeah, I've migrated away from all my previous HiKV's except one...but if it turned out they had one that met the specs and was a turret....

Yeah, that's the style I want...and I'm not even expecting a Starlight version of it...but was hoping that the low light level of the 2831 could fit this format.

5831:
0.05Lux/F1.8 (Color,1/3s,30IRE)
0.2Lux/F1.8 (Color,1/30s,30IRE)

2831:
0.004Lux/F1.9( Color,1/3s,30IRE)
0.09Lux/F1.9Color,1/30s,30IRE)

Fairly significant difference, otherwise I'd certainly go with the 5831 for this one cam.

No, don't need color at night. I just didn't list the non-color value because they always just seem to list it a "0 lux"

(5831) 0Lux/F1.8(IR on)

Why do they do that? Why don't they provide a non-color, non-IR value ?

If you haven't already seen them, Dahua's new Eco-savvy 4.0 AI series(Pro AI) models have some 4MP turrets (eyeball) that have better minimum illumination specs than the 2MP Starlights. No price (or reviews) for them yet, though... and doesn't look like any varifocal turret models, either. :/

I have this (from Andy):

US $227.99 5% OFF|IPC HDW5831R ZE 2017 New Arriving cameras 8MP WDR IR Eyeball Network Camera IPC HDW5831R ZE free DHL shipping-in Surveillance Cameras from Security & Protection on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group

It does not have the great low light performance of the IPC-HDW5231R-ZE (of which I have 3), but it's watching over my car in the driveway and has extra light from another camera and an IR illuminator so it gives a very nice image, day and night.

This is a pretty good 4k cam. I am running these until a bigger sensor model comes along. The above price seems high, I got mine for $186.00 including shipping. The seller I use is now listing them at $194.39 with shipping. (there must be supply issues as this model seems to be getting more expensive as time goes by, not cheaper)

I recommend this unit and the low light performance is better than the specs tend to indicate.

Stick with 2mp Dahua Starlights. I have a few 8mp and the quality in the day is awesome but at night....way different story.

Exactly. IMHO the technology is not quite there yet for anything above 2mp at night. At least something that most of us can afford. :) However with enough light maybe. Probably a lot of light. ;)
