Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

I tried Intel PROSet on my desktop machine but had problems with trunks. When it work, it worked fine. But it kept losing its config and I had to reconfigure the trunk. I finally gave up on it. Maybe it was because VMware Workstation or VirtualBox or HyperV resetting the config. For BlueIris...

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

I have three of these. They work pretty well. No issues so far. As long as your cameras don't use too much power (no PTZ), and your PoE switch is decent, you can plug this in to your PoE switch (which will power this device) and then connect cameras to it. I have a Cisco PoE switch and set the...

New to LPR? Considerations Before You Begin

Yeah, Rekognition is slick. And their AI/ML model will continue to improve over time, which should improve accuracy. I'm sure Plate Recognizer is much more polished than my skunkworks project :). Trying to learn AWS. Here's my thinking for an automated workflow: 1. BI detects motion and sends...

New to LPR? Considerations Before You Begin

I'm playing around with LPR and testing AWS Rekognition to read the plates. I downloaded the images that got an error (in 1st post) and tried to see how well Rekognition fared. Rekognition got it right: "DHL2683 error.JPG" Detected text:TEXAS Confidence: 97.38% Id: 0 Type:LINE Detected text...

POE switches with SFP slot(s) ?

You can get a used enterprise switch on ebay that has PoE and SFP ports for under $100. It will last you a long time. There is a reason why some of those enterprise switches have a lifetime warranty (only for the original owner).

POE switches with SFP slot(s) ?

I believe a goal of the OP for using fiber is to minimize the damage. i.e reduce the risk of a lightning friendly conductor (CAT6 copper) carry large voltage spikes between two locations.

Is there a such thing as a camera system that is not complete trash? Suggestions?

Thanks. I think I'm going down the right path. Sorry OP for going slightly off topic. Now I just need someone to park a car in the middle of the road for 5min :).

Is there a such thing as a camera system that is not complete trash? Suggestions?

Not sure why mine is different. Yours is called "illuminator" and mine is "IR Light". Anyway, I tried your settings and it's an improvement. I can clearly see the plate. Except when I turn up the gain, I get a gray instead of black background.

Wow. Thanks for the quick response. I don't have the same settings. I think my firmware may be older. What version of firmware do you recommend?

How? Please share your settings for the 5241-Z12E. I have the same camera but don't get nearly the same clarity. Do you have additional IR lighting at night?

cheap IP camera that supports MJPEG

Hello, I have a science project. This is not for a security use-case so I don't need any extra features or ruggedness. No need for security features. I just need a cheap (since there will be multiple) IP camera that supports MJPEG streams. Authentication is not required. The cheapest I found are...

HTTP Streaming on Amcrest 5MP Camera

yes, this works. Enable the substream to send MJPEG. The URL would look like this: http://username:password@x.x.x.x/cgi-bin/mjpg/video.cgi?channel=1&subtype=1 where x.x.x.x is the IP address of your camera.

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

It's ok, it's just semantics. We have different interpretations of the meaning for "isolated." A second NIC is not isolated. It is attached to a Windows machine that has a path to the Internet. I have friends who work on truly isolated government networks. They have to physically drive into...

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

^ This ^ The Windows machine is a path to/from your camera subnet. Don't get me wrong, I'm in favor of the dual-NIC approach. I just don't want people to misunderstand and believe it is an isolated design. It's not. All these enterprises thought they were "safe" ---> World’s Biggest Data...

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

It's not isolated. Isolated would mean there is no path to the camera subnet from another network (standalone BI system with one NIC connected to cameras and no internet). In this case you can VPN to your network and RDP to Windows, then get to the camera subnet from there (not isolated).

In effect, using dual NICs in this manner is putting your cameras on a separate subnet.

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

Sure it's possible. This is why many enterprises use multiple vendors and multiple layers of security. Also, Windows is more complex than a managed switch. There are so many apps that you can run on Windows. Surely Windows has more potential vulnerabilities. Just check the CVE database. There...

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

This is certainly possible. There could be a Windows vulnerability we won't know about. If this vulnerability is known by a Govt sponsored cyber organization, they could potentially share that vulnerability with a camera manufacturer (that is heavily controlled or influenced by said Govt). An...

    PoE Switch Suggestion List

The 3560 is a layer 3 switch, which means it can do dynamic routing. For example, it will run routing protocols like OSPF, RIP, EIGRP. The 3560 can do everything the 2960 can do and more. The 2960 is a layer 2 switch. Most consumer switches fall in the layer 2 only category. You may be to do...

    Recommend a wifi6 access point

Those are reported rates by the client. I did not run any iperf tests. I do testing of certain solutions at home so local WiFi speeds are important to me. Even if I connect at >1G, my max is 1G because I'm connected to the switch via 1000BaseT. In hindsight, I should have opted for the AP 6 LR...

Some quick feedback regarding the Unifi AP 6 Lite. I bought a pair of these thinking to upgrade my two Cisco 3702i. Works decent for WiFi 6 (802.11ax). Speed is faster than WiFi 5 (802.11ac) for most devices like smartphones and laptops. However the WiFi 5 support (which most clients use) on AP...

Looks like the AP 6 Lite also supports VLANs (which is what I currently use with my Ciscos). That put me over the fence but as I was about to place the order, it looks like it's sold out. Guess I have to wait a couple of weeks.

Perfect, that's what I want. When I think of a WiFi controller, I think of Cisco/Aruba which has a true controller. The Unifi controller sounds more like a "configuration tool" - which is perfect.
