Adding to HDW2231R-ZS 2MP cams, go 4MP or stick with 2MP?

I know the base uses the same screw pattern. I replaced a HDW5231R-ZE with a HDW5442T-ZE pretty easily. I think I may have used the new "shroud" but kept the old base. Not sure if you could do the same with a 2231.

Dahua day/night switch utility - DahuaSunriseSunset

I use the following BASH script to do that on my Synology NAS. It runs every day and calculates sunrise-20min and sunset+20min. It then configures start/stop of night mode. You'll have to provide your own password and ip addresses. If all you want to do is adjust the sunset/sunrise this is...

    Review-OEM 4mp AI Cam IPC-T5442TM-AS Starlight+

I use the following BASH script to do that on my Synology NAS. It runs every day and calculates sunrise-20min and sunset+20min. It then sleeps until sunset+19Min. There is other code in the script which changes the start/end time for night mode. On one of my cameras I manually set "Normal"...

    Review-OEM Loryta IPC-T5442T-ZE Varifocal 4mp camera (Dahua)

I am using it with Synology Surveillance Station. I have it configured as Generic Dahua. I don't use IVS, but options for it do show up under Event Detection.

Can anyone recommend a Dahua varifocal?

The T5442T-ZE is a really good camera. The previous champ was the IPC-HDW5231R-ZE 2MP. The Amazon price is $176.99, making the 5442 look even better. The IPC-T2231T-ZS is as good, if not better, camera vs the 5231 but doesn't have sound. At $129.99 on Amazon it is priced right if you don't...

IPC-HDW5442T-ZE New cam from Dahua :)

I started setting up my new camera. One irritant is that I can't paste into the password field using chrome (safari works). It seems like the onpaste="return false" has been added to the logon screen html. My older cameras don't have that field.

IPC-HDW5442T-ZE New cam from Dahua :)

Received one from Amazon today! It will probably be this weekend before I can start playing with it. My biggest decision is whether to replace an existing IPC-HDW5231R-ZE that covers my front yard and move the 5231 to cover the driveway, or do I just add the 5442 to the driveway. I'm leaning...

Dahua IPC-HDW5231R-ZE motion detection and Synology Surveillance station

Yes, on the Motion Detection Tab I have Enable checked, as well as Record and Snapshot. I don't have a SD card, so not sure that snapshot will do anything. On SS in the recording setting page, schedule tab I have continuous enabled for all days, all times. I think if you just want to record...

Dahua IPC-HDW5231R-ZE motion detection and Synology Surveillance station

I run with continuous recording + camera event detection. It works. Always recording with markers when events happen. I used to run with lower resolution 24x7 and switch to high resolution for events but decided it was better to enable H.265+ and run full resolution all the time. It does not...

IPC-HDW5442T-ZE New cam from Dahua :)

The specs for minimum illumination and LED distance are not as good as IPC-T5442TM-AS. About the same as the IPC-HDW2232T-ZS-S2. These are paper specs, would be interesting to see real-life examples.

Best Dahua camera for night vision?

There is a recent news article about a homeowner who set up a motion detecting sprinkler to deter criminals. Apparently not only effective, but entertaining as well. https://www.ktvu.com/news/homeowner-uses-motion-activated-sprinkler-with-impressive-amount-of-pressure-to-thwart-thieves

    Review-OEM IPC-T2231T-ZS Ver 2, 2mp Varifocal Starlight Camera

A 1/2.8" sensor has a significantly different chop factor than a 1/1.8" sensor, correct? I believe the 1/2.8 is ~6.67 while the 1/1.8 is ~4.84. So with the same lens wouldn't the 1/2.8" sensor have a longer effective focal length? Or did I get that backwards?
