    Just looked up the old one I replaced: it was a DS-7608NI-E2/8P, which by my theory is indeed an 'E-series'.

    What defines 'E-series'? The old one was definitely EOL. The new one (DS-7608NI-Q2/8P) is not. I presume the new one is a 'Q-series'?

    Just upgraded an older DS-7608 NVR that hit end-of-life last year with the hope of finally getting support for codecs that don't require ancient Windows IE to view video, but it seems the new model still has not gotten the required upgraded firmware (it is currently stuck on 3.4.100 180310)...
