Did you get the settings from the Blue Iris server, or put them in manually? I got my from the server, which did automagically pick up the WAN address.

I think it's just not checking. It should probably try the WAN interface of the VPN server first, and if that does not work try the internal address. Likely that's what the Android app does.

I can confirm this. I just went through the same issue, and the iOS app seems to have a bug in the WAN setting where it must be local in order to access the server on the VPN.

Not exactly true. A few apps, Omnifocus being one of them, require you to pay for upgrades... But, point taken on the overthinking bit.

Have updates to newer versions of the app been free in the past?

I've got the VPN working fine now. It is just that for other less IT savvy folks, like wife and in-laws, starting up a VPN connection and then checking the cameras is almost certainly going to increase the number of 'support calls' I get, if not deter them altogether.

So port forwarding at the firewall is required to make the app work?

Anyone know what the update policy is for the app? I'm considering buying, but not sure how much value it adds over UI3 in the browser. It looks like it hasn't been updated in a while either. Can anyone with both apps comment on the functionality of one over the other?

Just resurrecting this thread with another vote for a pushover direct from Blue Iris. I got here probably the same way many have; living in a location where there are no free SMS gateways offered by the local telcos. A direct pushover notification would be ideal.

Setting the firewall access by port instead of application seems to have done it. Thanks all. Will monitor for a few days and hopefully declare success by next week.

I have that option ticked, and the cameras can sync with NetTime ... when the firewall is turned off. When it is turned back on again, the clocks start drifting. This happens despite me adding the NetTime executable to the allowed list of the Windows firewall. So it seems like the Windows 10...

It used to be difficult, but with one of the recent updates it is easier to disable. I've heard from more than one source that disabling updates is good practice for a Blue Iris machine, and I've had updates break other software over the years too.

The general recommendation when installing Blue Iris seems to be to disable both Windows 10 and Blue Iris automatic updates, and only update when you need a feature. Generally, good advice. The wiki recommends disabling driver updates, not all updates. Is this still the recommended...

Can you use remote desktop to get to the server? That seems like it would be easiest, and not require a second license.

You raise a good point. I'm hoping with that florescent light I may not need to use IR at all, assume it doesn't blind the camera too (in non-night mode). These tight spaces can be tricky too.

You might check the temps first. I thought this would be a problem in my server closet, but it turns out they remained near an acceptable level (30 degree). Not ideal, but a check of the CPU temps show that they are < 50, so it should be good.

I think it will work for properties; tight corridors probably less so. Height can be adjusted with the 'show blind spots' function, but it does not seem to give a good facial preview of this. Neat tool nevertheless, thanks.
