Thoughts: Music Server on Blue Iris Machine?

Hi All, I've got a blue iris machine that has been running flawlessly for about 9 months now, with some help from the good folks here. I was surprised at how well it all went, after a bit of reading and planning. My next home project is to sort out media streaming, mostly music. There are few...

Did you get the settings from the Blue Iris server, or put them in manually? I got my from the server, which did automagically pick up the WAN address.

Good working theory. I am using OpenVPN as well.

I think it's just not checking. It should probably try the WAN interface of the VPN server first, and if that does not work try the internal address. Likely that's what the Android app does.

I can confirm this. I just went through the same issue, and the iOS app seems to have a bug in the WAN setting where it must be local in order to access the server on the VPN.

Value & Update Policy for Blue Iris iOS App?

Not exactly true. A few apps, Omnifocus being one of them, require you to pay for upgrades... But, point taken on the overthinking bit.

Value & Update Policy for Blue Iris iOS App?

Have updates to newer versions of the app been free in the past?

Value & Update Policy for Blue Iris iOS App?

I've got the VPN working fine now. It is just that for other less IT savvy folks, like wife and in-laws, starting up a VPN connection and then checking the cameras is almost certainly going to increase the number of 'support calls' I get, if not deter them altogether.

Value & Update Policy for Blue Iris iOS App?

So port forwarding at the firewall is required to make the app work?

Value & Update Policy for Blue Iris iOS App?

Anyone know what the update policy is for the app? I'm considering buying, but not sure how much value it adds over UI3 in the browser. It looks like it hasn't been updated in a while either. Can anyone with both apps comment on the functionality of one over the other?

    Does BI support Pushover notification?

Just resurrecting this thread with another vote for a pushover direct from Blue Iris. I got here probably the same way many have; living in a location where there are no free SMS gateways offered by the local telcos. A direct pushover notification would be ideal.

    NetTime Setup with Firewalls

Setting the firewall access by port instead of application seems to have done it. Thanks all. Will monitor for a few days and hopefully declare success by next week.

    NetTime Setup with Firewalls

I have that option ticked, and the cameras can sync with NetTime ... when the firewall is turned off. When it is turned back on again, the clocks start drifting. This happens despite me adding the NetTime executable to the allowed list of the Windows firewall. So it seems like the Windows 10...

    NetTime Setup with Firewalls

Because the camera network does not have access to the internet, only the Blue Iris PC, and it is syncing to a network time source

    NetTime Setup with Firewalls

I've got my three cameras positioned, mounted and tested; so far so good, however I have observed that the time on all three seem to be drifting from that shown in NetTime. At first I thought it was a firewall problem, so I turned off the Windows firewall and after 10 minutes (the default sync...

Disabling Windows Updates: All or just video drivers?

It used to be difficult, but with one of the recent updates it is easier to disable. I've heard from more than one source that disabling updates is good practice for a Blue Iris machine, and I've had updates break other software over the years too.

Disabling Windows Updates: All or just video drivers?

The general recommendation when installing Blue Iris seems to be to disable both Windows 10 and Blue Iris automatic updates, and only update when you need a feature. Generally, good advice. The wiki recommends disabling driver updates, not all updates. Is this still the recommended...

    Remote Management question

Can you use remote desktop to get to the server? That seems like it would be easiest, and not require a second license.

Ah, I see. So what card(s) are recommended in these cameras for hi-res recording?

    V5 Stability Issues

That's what I'm tempted to do. I've got a clean install of the OS on a dedicated PC. Looking for some kind of certainty (at least as much as you get in software) because this is a remote home location, and once set up in the next few weeks I won't be able to access the hardware again for at...

    V5 Stability Issues

Had a few questions on v5. I am new to cameras and blue iris, and trying to avoid the headaches of an unstable release. A few people have been asking if the consensus is that the v5 problems are caused by an upgrade to v4, or may also exist in a fresh install of v5. Anyone have an...

    256GB SD Card: It Works

Just an FYI. I bought a 256GB card before I bought the camera, and asked here if anyone knew if it would work. Most responses were a big vague, indicating 128GB is the only one that would work. I decided to throw in the 256GB anyway, and it seems just fine. This is a new model camera (I...

    Entry camera placement guidence

You raise a good point. I'm hoping with that florescent light I may not need to use IR at all, assume it doesn't blind the camera too (in non-night mode). These tight spaces can be tricky too.

How To Cool a Network Closet

You might check the temps first. I thought this would be a problem in my server closet, but it turns out they remained near an acceptable level (30 degree). Not ideal, but a check of the CPU temps show that they are < 50, so it should be good.

    Entry camera placement guidence

Anyone? The wiki mentions pixels having 5px/cm for identification purposes, but does not mention how to know what cameras are suitable for getting that. Would also love to hear any comment on the placement. It seems somewhat high by the recommendations I've read, but I hope that the short...

    Mounting height

For anyone interested, there seems to be a tool here: IP Video System Design Tool | Intuitively Design Surveillance Systems with 2D/3D Views that can set camera height and show a simulation, but it requires a download and install on MS Windows. Anyone tried it?

    Mounting height

I think it will work for properties; tight corridors probably less so. Height can be adjusted with the 'show blind spots' function, but it does not seem to give a good facial preview of this. Neat tool nevertheless, thanks.

    Mounting height

I see, thanks. Will check it out. Adding floor plans seems like a paid feature though.

Are there any free tools like this? It is a bit expensive for a one-time use.
