    NetTime server error

Thanks for all the info on this thread. I finally got this working after a few hours struggle. The main trick that I missed was that the BI server ip that I had to set as the NTP server (on dahua cam settings) was the IP as seen from the cameras (they are on a subnet) and NOT the IP as seen from...

    Zones and re-triggering

There are excellent videos here on the Subject. I've watched them a number of times and every time I notice something new as I learn the software.

BIue Iris is so F*%# AWESOME! - and Thank You ipcamtalk!

It's taken me over a year and a half to make the move from an analogue dahua NVR to an BI powered IP Cam setup and I feel so empowered! - Today TNT will deliver the next 4 (8 in total - and i already have my eye on another 2) cameras from Andy. @EMPIRETECANDY Once installed I will then shut off...

    Is this a good buy

Hi... So based on this and the above-mentioned posts, I can effectively have both the 256gb ssd my dell optiplex 9020 SFF came with and the extra 3.5" wd purple that I bought? - All I would have to do is get a y-splitter power cable like this and then get a 9.5mm sata caddy like this to hold the...

    Record to network share

Really? - Ok, I'll search more. Thanks. Everything I found online thus far stated 2 x 2.5" HDD as a max with a special caddy and y-splitter for power. Nope, Definitely not paranoid. In South Africa they will take the PC if they find it. - Unfortunately it's not just small, easy to carry...

Planned setup when My BI pc arrives

Thanks... this gives me something else to look into. I'll check my router settings/options etc. and see what I can do around this. - One thing I do know is that I can't run DD-WRT etc on my particular router which limits me quite a bit.

    Record to network share

Thanks for this post. I'm a moron... Somewhere in the excitement of ordering my refurb dell 9020 for BI, extra ram, wd purple 4tb etc etc - I did not check to see if I can fit an additional 3.5" HDD in the SFF box. - It seems I can't! - Dammit! - so now I have an awesome BI machine with only...

Planned setup when My BI pc arrives

For now... yes. - Until I learn a whole lot more about how to connect it safely ;-) - the more I read here... the less I seem know!

Planned setup when My BI pc arrives

My PoE switch is unmanaged. So for now I'll keep BI disconnected like so from the router until I add another NIC.

Planned setup when My BI pc arrives

Well... from what I've read on here... the camera's should not have direct "Access" to the internet. So BI server should be between the camera's and the internet connection right?

Planned setup when My BI pc arrives

Thanks. The AP's - Mesh devices connect to each other so only 1 is wired to the router. The other 2 either wired to each other or wifi connected to each other. In terms of the POE switch connecting BI server and ip cams to the router... Would this work nicely or do I have to get a 2nd NCI or...

Planned setup when My BI pc arrives

Hi All. Hoping for some comments and suggestions. I'm still learning here and fairly new to networking and totally new to IP cams etc. (but am learning fast thanks to all the info on these forums.) Here is my planned setup when I get BI up and running in the next few weeks. From what I've been...

    Just Bought Version 5

Hi. So I'm going to be a new BI user soon. PC on the way. Cat 6 cables installed and cameras going up soon. (been a long time coming). So as a NEW user... do I buy version 5 that sounds pretty buggy. or do I go for tried n tested version 4? - or as a new user will I be fine with version 5?

    Dahua 2MP Starlight Lineup

Thanks for the very useful pointers. I think I'll get one and try it out as you suggested. Right up against the glass and dark behind.

    Dahua 2MP Starlight Lineup

I'm thinking of getting something like this mounted inside looking out through a 1-way glass window. - I know that IR will not work through a window so if the area is very well lit on the other side of the window do you thing one of these 2mp starlight turrets will work ok? thanks.

Dahua 2MP 25x Starlight IR PTZ Network Camera (SD49225T-HN)

Hi All. Do these Starlights work well at night in a well lit area without IR switched on? The reason I ask is because I want to use this through a window and I understand that IR does not work through a window? So I'm wondering if it will be bright enough at night. Thanks.

    PoE Switch Suggestion List

Perfect thanks for the detail. I was going to get an 8 port 4poe 4 normal. Then I thought wait that's the exact amount of POE i need to start. So I've doubled that. So I'll start with 8 for one side of the house then put another the other side later with another 8. - That should be enough for...

    PoE Switch Suggestion List

Hi. Quick question. If I buy an unmanaged POE switch like the: NETGEAR 8-Port Gigabit Unmanaged Switch, PoE/PoE+ 120W, Fanless, Rackmount, Plug-and-Play, ProSAFE Lifetime Protection (GS108PP) It only has POE ports. Does that mean that 1 POE port gets used up for connection to my router or to...

    What size/capacity microSD card for: IPC-HFW5231E-Z5 & IPC-HFW5231E-Z12

Thanks for the information. Much appreciated. As you say I can run without SD cards then that is what I'll do for now until I decide on actual usage. Rather than buy 4 small sd cards for the sake of having them. ;-)

    What size/capacity microSD card for: IPC-HFW5231E-Z5 & IPC-HFW5231E-Z12

Hi. I'm about to take delivery of 2 each of: IPC-HFW5231E-Z12 and IPC-HFW5231E-Z5 Dahua cameras. As this is my first foray into ipcams I need a little advice on the SD cards needed. What size/capacity should I get if I plan to stream direct to HDD with Blue Iris. - Surely I don't need more...

    PoE Switch Suggestion List

... now i've gone down the rabbit hole of: "If you liked that then you WILL like these too!!!" - grrrrr. lol. expanded my search now to netgear as well and there seems to be lots of reasonable priced option. (Anything under 200 shipped for me is a good price).

    PoE Switch Suggestion List

There, Cancelled. I was reading the reviews on amazon once I saw someone here somewhere... I can't find the thread now mentioned how fantastic the touchswitch was. - Unless I ordered the wrong model which is pretty feasible. Usually I buy tp-link because I've had many tp link routers...

So are you saying that as long as I plug them into POE devices only i'm all good? - Or should I rather cancel the order (while i still can) and get something more for dummies?

    PoE Switch Suggestion List

I ordered one of these: Ubiquiti TS-8-PRO ToughSwitch 8 based on what I read here and in a few other threads. I'm a total noob with this stuff so I'll let you know from a noobs pov how easy to set up it is once it arrives. Thanks for the info and very useful list. /r
