Looking for an affordable outdoor PoE PTZ camera, optical zoom a plus

Looking for an affordable (<$200) outdoor PoE PTZ camera. I will normally have this pointing at my back gate for security reasons, but when the kids are in the pool, I'd like to be able to pivot to them to watch while I'm working (just to keep me sane during the workday, not as a replacement to...

Accessing image stream by passing username and pw in URL not working

Thanks for the feedback. I only have my blue iris server available behind my LAN firewall, and use a VPN to connect remotely.

Accessing image stream by passing username and pw in URL not working

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but is this a "bad practice" from a security point of view?

Accessing image stream by passing username and pw in URL not working

I'm trying to access the image stream via URL by passing the username and password as query string params but it is still kicking me to the UI3 login screen. Here are the steps: 1. Created a non admin user 2. Enter the following url in browser...

Direct-to-Drive enabled but still have overlay

Hm. I was just confused that maybe I was not doing D2D correctly since I was still seeing time stamps but it looks like this is normal for BVR formatted videos. This brings up another question though. I just have everything staying at BVR format. Is it better to only have the current recording...

Direct-to-Drive enabled but still have overlay

I followed the guide on here about how to reduce CPU usage and tweak BI including enabling Direct To Drive recording. But I see that my videos still have the overlay/timestamp. I thought D2D disabled this feature?

Where do you generally purchase your cameras? (USA)

Hey! Yea, I already have a server that BI is running on that is loaded with pooled storage so I don't need a dedicated NVR appliance.

Is a VPN as critical if you only access cameras via Blue Iris Web View?

Can you point me to a tutorial that you used? The only thing clearly apparent in the GUI is PPTP...

How "fast" should the "New" folder storage medium be?

Given the comments above, you'd probably be fine provided your network, switch, etc aren't overloaded with other traffic. You could always run some speed tests like the ones I did in the first post to verify your transfer rate.

Where do you generally purchase your cameras? (USA)

Gotcha, makes sense. That is not a cheap camera (IPC-HDW5231R-Z), but I guess you get what you pay for.

Where do you generally purchase your cameras? (USA)

So by mix and match are you saying buy a la carte, or that the kits usually mix and match for you?

Is a VPN as critical if you only access cameras via Blue Iris Web View?

Yea, I was thinking about a subnet (I am network-dumb beyond the basics), but my BI instance is running on a home server that also manages file storage/backups, home automation, media streaming, etc; so all that stuff needs to stay connected. I'd have to either build a new dedicated box to run...

Where do you generally purchase your cameras? (USA)

I don't need the nvr, but a set of exterior cameras would be good.

Yea, I noticed some good models well under 100.

Where do you generally purchase your cameras? (USA)

I'm in the process of trying to figure out what cameras I want to mount around the exterior my house. Where online do you generally purchase your cameras? I'm specifically looking at Dahua or Hikvision since they tend to come highly recommended. I'm hoping to find cameras in the $100 range give...

How "fast" should the "New" folder storage medium be?

I have been going through the settings and have moved the clip storage to my large drive pool (since the OS and blue iris are installed on a small SSD). I noticed the disclaimer though that the "New" folder should ideally be on fast storage. How fast is fast storage? Obviously it will be fine on...

Help me with this "Clips" error

I think this error has to do with BI thinking I am running low of space on my C:\ drive? EDIT: OK, I think I figured it out. While changing the storage directories to my storage pool, I noticed that the size limit set for "New" is 10gb, "Stored" is 20gb, and "Alerts" is 1gb. Add that together...

    Where to start?

I'm right there with you man. I thought I was cool with my 3 Foscam cameras. Now I realize I've been a loser all along.

Is a VPN as critical if you only access cameras via Blue Iris Web View?

Hm, that's not a bad idea. My router (Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X) supports most of the VPN protocols, so I was thinking about trying to get L2TP going at some point. My biggest sticking point was the hassle of logging in/out of the vpn from my phone, but Tasker might make that less of a headache. It...

Is a VPN as critical if you only access cameras via Blue Iris Web View?

Ddns and a forwarded port. I figured Blue Iris works be more secure then a typical cheap ip cam.

Is a VPN as critical if you only access cameras via Blue Iris Web View?

I've been reading the VPN n00b guide and I agree that a VPN is absolutely necessary if you are connecting directly to the cameras. But if my cameras are not open directly to the outside and instead can be viewed via Blue Iris server, is a VPN as necessary?

Best Poe router for 8 items?

OP needs a device that supports 8 devices.

Best Poe router for 8 items?

Oh definitely. But I was more asking in respect to OP's question. One of the posters recommended a 10/100 switch for 8 items. I'd be concerned that won't be enough bandwidth. Though, that would mean that each item would have to use 12mbps, which i don't think would ever happen...

    Trouble fishing cat6 cables

I bought THIS a while back and it works OK. The biggest issue is that it is not rigid, so if you are fishing anywhere except straight down, you need to tape it to a metal coat hanger or similar.

Hi All! Fairly new to all this.

Hi everyone. I am currently running Blue Iris on a home server connected to 3 wireless IP cameras, 2 of which are among the chinese Foscam models that were announced to have blatant easy access back doors. I've since deleted the port forwards to them and plan on configuring a VPN on my...
