It's true. I have thousands and thousands of non poe devices plugged into poe ports. I even have ports that have power injectors plugged in for devices that don't follow the standard for whatever reason. It's not a concern at all.

You shouldn't need to cut any wires. If the device plugged in does not need PoE, it won't request it from the switch during the negotiation process.

I would at least try it before you buy new equipment. I manage an enterprise network and occasionally we have runs that are as long as yours, I've not yet had a poe camera that hasn't worked at that distance. There's definitely a chance it won't work but it doesn't hurt to try.

True, if you have a lot of devices with higher poe requirements you may run out of power. For 98% of situations it won't have any problems. I run 4 cameras and 2 cisco APs with plenty of budget left.

Veracity camswitch is one I've seen used in enterprise on occasion. They work well but aren't cheap for a homeowner. I'm sure there are others that I'm not aware of.

It does appear to indicate you'll need an external power source. I have an AC strike so it's slightly different, but I used a transformer for a doorbell to power mine. The controller in my case is just a dry contact switch, and even though it has it's own power it doesn't power my strike.

With my Dahua cams I've noticed the time will not sync with the NVR if you have the box ticked telling the camera to sync with a time server. Something to check.

I'll throw out the linksys lgs308p. It's very compact which was something I was picky about when looking. Also gigabit.

Maybe I'm missing the point but why not just change the time in the NVR? I do wish mine would automatically update for dst though.

I used deck screws at my house. For the cameras we mount at work we use toggle bolts.

Just curious, what kinda switch do you run? We have a few hundred Cisco 3750x and 3850s I deal with on a daily basis. Would love to run one at home but way overkill and just a tad out of my budget lol.

The reason you shouldn't use solid core as a patch cable is because the wire can break from too much movement. There is no issue whatsoever with Crimping rj45s on solid core, it's actually preferred.

I don't blame you for the cheap crimpers. I have a few of the blackbox EZ-RJpro crimpers that I get through my job. They are the best crimpers I've ever used but they are just too pricey to buy for personal use. I understand some of the guys that have been doing this a long time don't like...

I prefer using the ez-rj45 connectors. You have to get the crimp tool as well but they are just easier to get a perfect crimp everytime.

Used UTP cat6 personally. Just can't see the need for shielded in the home.
