New member working on 1st sec cam project

Updated for cable, connector, POE router, wall rack, and crimping tool selections. Once I get closer to when Andy is shipping my NVR and cameras (after the Chinese New Year unfortunately), I'll purchase the remaining items. Request any thoughts or suggestions.

    NVR Selection and Configuration Confirmation

Well, one more question in case anyone might want to help: Is there any reason that I would need to hook up a KVM over IP so I can directly interface with the NVR (vs. using its IP-based interface)?

    Dahua NVR 4216-4k vs 5216-4ks2

Nayr--is the 5216 better enough to wait for versus a discounted 4216 though (Andy @ empire... is willing to sell me a NVR4216-16P-4KS2 for $240)? I asked about the 5216 but he doesn't have any at the moment... Matt

    NVR Selection and Configuration Confirmation

Third question now--based on availability, I'm considering buying an NVR4216-16P-4KS2 instead of the NVR5216--am I giving up anything besides additional alarm triggers (tough for me to figure out based on what I've found so far). Thanks for any advice on this too.

Updated for a draft NVR selection and definitely using a POE router.

    NVR Selection and Configuration Confirmation

So, reading through threads on here has of course been useful and educational. Given the amount of issues I've seen with people trying to access their cameras through their NVRs (and the clear advice from nayr), I'm going to invest in a separate POE switch. I'm not a network engineer and this...

The challenge I'll have is that the target area isn't the parking area for the target vehicle in question--it will be transiting at ~15-20mph and parks in an area that is out of view from my house. The link to the threat I started in the Dahua camera sub-forum will help explain a good bit more...

New System Build--camera selection and installation advice

nayr--appreciate the advice on doing some creative experimentation--I had the same thought as I was trying to take some pictures. I saw the thread where everyone was trying to weigh in on the stair-entry and lighting issue. I suspect I'll have a camera strapped to a ladder or ziptied around a...

New System Build--camera selection and installation advice

Link to overall build info: New member working on 1st sec cam project Looking for (likely) two cameras: · 10-30' coverage, day and night face-recognition quality coverage for driveway and adjacent walkway to door; Daytime coverage good enough to get facial recognition for anyone...

If I read the forum correctly, there is no single build forum, so I'll use this thread as a master one for my build and have some individual thread for discussion of specific components. I'll be editing my initial post with context and goals for my build and add a link to this thread if people...

    NVR Advice Please

Nayr--why do you prefer the separate PoE--I noticed you had that kind of setup on your profile (with the midspans)? Just curious. Would that answer still apply if you're not running a rackmount setup? Thanks in advance. Matt

Hello from Tampa. Security camera noob here, trying to get smart enough to do an external camera install after some ongoing crimes in my neighborhood (and a couple of minor ones in my front yard). I am tech conversant and relatively handy (build my own PCs, speak a bit of IP--a home network of...
