    Dahua NVR5216 hard reset?

My V1 5216-4ks2 originally ran V3 firmware. A few years ago I upgraded to a fairly early version of the V4 firmware. I do not use the very latest V4 firmware that I could be using. Detail you probably don't care about: Somewhere during the V4 firmware evolution, dahua added code to prevent...

    Dahua NVR5216 hard reset?

You have version 3 firmware. The latest is version 4. I'm running a fairly old 5216-4ks2 with version 4 firmware and as of a couple months ago it worked with P2P, although the smartPSS and DMSS apps had to be upgraded with newer versions. Be careful if upgrading the firmware. There are V1...

    Camera to watch over garden

Does the animal detection cause a BI trigger? The advertising says this is a 4MP camera with a 1/1.79 sensor and f1.0 lens. This sounds like the new wiz-color line, which might not be able to detect animals, at half the price. It looks like the case isn't as robust as a dahua case is, but if...

    Dahua NVR5216 hard reset?

If the NVR works for other than connection to DMSS and smartPSS, I would suspect some kind of communication configuration problem. A while back, dahua changed the P2P servers and older versions of the remote software no longer connect. Perhaps an older NVR won't work with dahua P2P anymore...

    Dahua WizColor COMING SOON!

I'm surprised to hear this. I don't have a 4k-t to compare, but I'm pretty happy with how the 3.6mm 4k-x catches details over 100' away.

    Camera to monitor 5" x 8" LCD panel ?

I'll compare notes with you. When I'm away I use an old 6mm 4MP chinese market dahua camera pointing at my touchscreen thermostst. At this point in time, this is considered a fairly low-end camera. It's very close to 32" away and works great. One thing I noticed is, if I have this right, the...

    The autism pandemic

Pretty scary stats: Autism much more prevalent in boys. Nationwide 1 in 20 boys have it. In california, 1 in 12.5 boys have it. If these stats are correct, it is indeed a major epidemic.

    Dahua WizColor COMING SOON!

I need to pay attention to this. It would be a reasonable solution if it really works. It just seems silly to me to not include what's already proven in the S3 cameras.

I have one big question. Since these are new phones with new firmware, why the heck aren't they including the animal detection?

    Off-Road IR light bar

I'm using 11 of the round cmvision 4 watters, and I keep a spare for fast swapping. I lose one of the eleven about once a year and have a pretty high repair success rate. With these, and I assume most or all others, replacing an actual IR emitter isn't feasible because of the way they're...

    Off-Road IR light bar

Was moisture intrusion the cause of your failures? I bought a few Tendelux illuminators and all had moisture intrusion after a couple of years,. My theory is that the sealing gaskets shrank. They were all repairable, only one time because I think they'll have to be destroyed to open them up...

    WTS Lightly used NVR8CH-8P-2AI NVR

It's all about supply and demand and what purchasers are willing to pay. Unfortunately, what you or I think something should be worth doesn't matter much at all. I'm sitting on a few perfectly good cameras just because it isn't worth the hassle to me to sell them for what anybody here would...

    Blue Iris OS Options

In the late 70s the company I worked for (not big blue) had two models of a chain printer, one twice as fast as the other, and costing a bit shy of twice as much. The difference was an internal jumper. To people like me who thought this to be a bit dishonest, they had a bit of a justification...

    Blue Iris OS Options

And that's the problem. People need to throw the old machines away and buy new ones. Fits right into Krugman's theory about breaking glass windows helping the economy. Helps fill up the landfills, too, as well as needing more mining and chemicals released into the atmosphere to make new chips.

    Dahua WizColor COMING SOON!

I'd like to say something about that video but I can't even figure out what it is or what it's for. From my experience with grandkids, I think 5 year old girls might think it's kind of neat. Aside from that, will these get blocked from USA over the FCC non-approval?

Maybe I can sell mine for a few hundred $ each to boeing? I've got at least 50 of them left. And I built up a pretty good stock of blank CDs and DVDs before they suddenly became obsolete. I'm a horrible pack rat, but have reformed a little. Over the last year I gave up some precious...

    Funny / Satire

I suspect that they'd have to go through some very expensive recertification process to change from the floppies, that would be a costly business decision. A lot cheaper to just keep a DOS or windows 95 system around.

    Camera to watch over garden

I finally resorted to a 7 foot high fence to keep the deer out. A few years back we had seedlings disappearing from the greenhouse. I put a temporary cam in there and fairly soon found out it was a mouse who quickly got acquainted with a mousetrap. I ran a temporary wire for this to the...

    POE Splitter Recommendation

Do any passive PSUs placing the power on the data lines (i.e. 4 wires for power and data) exist? I've assumed that all of those are 802.3xx compliant. Yet another bad assumption?

    POE Splitter Recommendation

If I'm understanding what I think you're saying, that's not correct. The camera supports both mode A and mode B POE, and I'm assuming what you're calling Passive POE is Mode B. The unit supplying the power controls what mode is used. Of course, you can't split one cable to drive 2 cameras...
