    On Going Remote Access Issue

So this was part of the issue. I had the wrong port number listed. Didn’t choose 81 but a higher port number. Once I put that in and cleared the WAN info out, it started working fully for me. Can’t thank ya enough!

    On Going Remote Access Issue

Having a non stop issue accessing cameras remotely since i've been using BI. Every year or two I revisit the idea before failing, getting pissed and settling for lone LAN access. Lemme start by giving an idea of my setup. Running BI5 on a dedicated Dell Optiplex. Running Flawlessly since...

Upgrading to PoE Injector with a separate Switch. Advice appreciated

Daytime I’m around 46.9 watt Nighttime with IR I’m around 63.2. Night will obviously draw more for longer this time of year given the seasons. This is to power the Switch which powers 7 Hikvision cams as well as one PoE powered Raspberry Pi. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Also, why would a 10/100 switch not be compatible with a gigabit switch? The data coming FROM the cameras is a slower speed going to a faster switch.

I'm actually looking at this BVTech now that you've suggested their brand. https://www.amazon.com/BV-Tech-Switch-Gigabit-Ethernet-uplink/dp/B01MQHD54L/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1511755949&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=16+port+poe+injector&psc=1 Whats the energy efficiency like on these?

    Cat5e Wiring Diagram?

Grab a tester. Less then 10 bucks and worth their weight in gold. Easiest way to tell if it's the camera or wiring but given you've terminated three times, it may be a camera issue. Or the port in your switch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Small vs Large LED in IR Illuminators

Will depend on the brand as well as output and the diffuser. Don't assume one cheap illuminator with say 6 larger lights will be better then a more expensive one with say a grid of 30 small lights. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Hikvisions in new construction

I've read a lot of people here who have said run one wire, then as you're running it tape a string to that so when it's completely fished, you just need attach the next wire to the bottom of that string, and then repeat with another string and the next wire and so on. Most here recommend a...

Cat 6 cable is laid now I need to crimp it and test it...tool advice requested

Also, I bought one of these when I was halfway thru and wish I had it from the getgo. It makes sure you don't cut into the wires when you're stripping the thread and provides clean and clear cuts. Def worth the investment. Universal Cable Stripper Cutter for Flat or Round UTP Cat5 Cat6 Wire...

Cat 6 cable is laid now I need to crimp it and test it...tool advice requested

Plantium EZ are overpriced for what they provide. Get a regular crimper and RJ45's, take a foot or two of cable and practice. Terminate and then cut off about two inches and do it again. By the fourth or fifth time you'll be fine. It's much simpler once you do it a few times, don't get...

Long CAT 6 wire runs - repeater or router needed?

You can't have any one Ethernet cable over 300' (328' as posted earlier in this thread) unless it's fiber optic. It's that simple. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Long CAT 6 wire runs - repeater or router needed?

The switch will be fine if you run line from all the cameras to the site of the power source. However you need to get a network line from that point, to your server which would most likely be in the house. You can't run a cat 5/6 cable between the too if the distance us too great, that's where...

Thanks for the reply, that was one of my questions since I'm not familiar with this kinda stuff. The one tutorial I saw showed the ping timing out and it looked like it was on the same network so I wasn't sure. I still need to figure out how to check it correctly then. Sent from my iPhone...
