    Seeking input for NVR/BI hardware/computer

Hey Guys - Shot in the dark here. I know some folks use BI via the UI3 interface on a tablet as a means to have a live look at the cameras at all times. Has anyone tried running the live camera view via Home Assistant or Home Seer? What I'd like to do is have my four cams visible at all times...

Interesting ... so you have a wifi network that isn't connected to the internet. I do like the simplicity of it all over VLANs.

    Seeking input for NVR/BI hardware/computer

Noodling on this a bit more and noticed I do need two switches to physically isolate cameras from the web. How do you guys handle wireless surveillance devices like video doorbells? Unfortunately, I don't really have an option to run a CAT cable to their locations. Guessing only option...

Thank you @wittaj ! For the record, I didn't know that's what Nord was for and I don't do any illegal streaming haha

    Seeking input for NVR/BI hardware/computer

Very simple and the graphic helps. Can't believe I forgot how I could use subnets - much appreciate the help. Happy to see I won't need two switches. So then if I want to connect to the BI machine from within 192.168.1.XXX, would I need to use a VPN client (e.g., NordVPN) or is there an...

    Seeking input for NVR/BI hardware/computer

Thanks for your help in the past. Getting ready to buy my BI machine and trying to think my way thru it first before I buy the hardware. The HP Elitedesk 800 G4 SFF w/ HDD does not have a dual NIC. Is there a popular machine that's similar to the ED 800 G4 w on-board dual NIC or do you almost...

    Seeking input for NVR/BI hardware/computer

Was looking at VTO2311R-WP, but doesn't seem like any doorbells are really that great. Ugh Edit: Ending up going with two AD410 and has been pretty good so far, just some minor chime issues.

    Seeking input for NVR/BI hardware/computer

Hi Guys - Thank you for the past help. I didn't want to start a new thread. Going to buy an HP HP EliteDesk 800 G4 SFF Intel Core i7-8700 3.20GHz w/ 16GB DDR4 and try to become familiar w/ BI. Thinking I just start with a EmpireTech's Wi-Fi Villa Door Station to start with and go from there...

    Seeking input for NVR/BI hardware/computer

Hi Guys - Didn't want to start a new thread so thought I'd follow-up with a few questions here (if you don't mind!). 1 - How do you access the PC hosting BI? Do you go headless and RDP to the machine when needed? Or do you buy a cheap monitor/keyboard to manage directly? 2 - Do most of you...

    Seeking input for NVR/BI hardware/computer

Been noodling on this for a while and reconsidering Blue Iris. Wondering if a Dahua NVR is more economical? Right now I have no network/PoE so looking at probably $550 or so to get my network components, rack them, CAT, etc. Then on top of that I'd have to buy HP Elitedesk 800 G4 SFF w/ HDD...

Good call out ... missed that. Might have to role with two smaller purples then! Are you going to do two purples? Let me know how it goes, if you don't mind.

Based on sebastiantombs storage comments I'll probably just go with the HP Elitedesk G4-800 SFF as well. Considerably more affordable than the Dell precision tower 3630. On your G4, does windows boot from NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD? If so, I might just throw a 12 TB purple in there and call it a day.

    Seeking input for NVR/BI hardware/computer

Thanks - I think this is the way. I looked at the manual (below) and it says it supports up to 3 x 3.5" SATA SSD/HDD. https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/precision-3630-workstation_owners-manual_en-us.pdf Now how do you guys access Blue Iris on the NVR to configure it, etc.? I guess you have to...

I can't, for the life of me, find one with two hard drives. Do you have a Dell OptiPlex 7040 Intel i7-6700 or something else? Thanks for the help and input!

last time I messed with the innards of a desktop they were just IDE. With one SATA slot from the optical drive, how did you add two HDD?

Did you leave the stock SSD drive in or replace w WD Purple? I suppose we could run BI off an SD card? Asking because what I’ve read so far suggests keeping BI on an SD/SSD.

Thanks all. So you’re saying if I bought an OptiPlex with a DVD player I could pull it out and use the SATA connection for a WD Purple 10TB?

    Seeking input for NVR/BI hardware/computer

Thanks. This makes sense to me. Sounds like the OptiPlex won't work in this case. Any recommendation for a machine that's already built (new or refurbished) that could do? I'm guessing this route will still be cheaper than trying to build my own machine, considering the i7 6700k OptiPlex is...

Hi All - What a great forum! I read the wiki and cliff notes. I am installing 2 to 3 EmpireTech IPC-Color4K-X (4K 8MP Ultra Low Light Full-Color AI IP Camera) as these seem to be highly rated for day and night. Also being installed is 2 Amcrest AD410 doorbell cameras. I'm doing this myself...
