Recommendation for camera / NVR system for mom's house

I am warming up to the idea of BI. Mom probably wont interact with the cameras too much if at all, maybe view/review footage from the TV (if I can get that functionality setup). I imagine that managing alerts, reviewing footage after an event, maintenance, etc would be handled by the kids.

Recommendation for camera / NVR system for mom's house

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately that plus a couple cams would be out of the budget.

Recommendation for camera / NVR system for mom's house

I would like to find a decent quality NVR (without HDD) and 3 or 4 IP cameras (2MP 1/2.8" or 4MP 1/1.8") for around $500. Maybe a tall order? I see the Dahua and Amcrest (rebranded Dahua) 2104/2108/4104/4108 series NVRs which look to be pretty good and possibly fit the budget. Thoughts on this...

Recommendation for camera / NVR system for mom's house

Something like this may fit the bill, at least initially. I have always stayed away from wireless cameras, but maybe the technology has changed? Night performance is important though, and I doubt the sensor is very big on these 4k camera. Price is right though... Arlo Pro 4 XL Spotlight 3...

Recommendation for camera / NVR system for mom's house

Hello, I have BI setup at my house now with several Dahua cams from Andy. I am happy with the setup and thank the community here and forum for the help over the last couple of years. I am now doing some research for another project. I am searching / browsing the threads here, but wanted to...

Looking to build a cheap traffic viewer

Can you back into your garage when you arrive home instead of pulling in? Would give better visibility on the way out and a quick exit.

    Review-OEM IPC-T3241-ZAS 2mp AI Lite series Varifocal

Is this camera still a contender in the 2MP varifocal space? Or is there a better bang for the buck? Do they work well for LPR/LPC? I see they are discounted on Amazon right now. I have standardized on the 5442 but these may fill a niche.

    Main/Backup camera settings mixup

Thanks guys. I do genuinely appreciate the help with my original question.

    Main/Backup camera settings mixup

I know, just a habit. I try not to post any (personal or private) information in a public forum that is not required. I am not too concerned with this though. And no I am not port forwarding.

    Main/Backup camera settings mixup

It looks like the Clone Master box does not need to be checked to tell BI that the camera is cloned. From the manual, BI assigns it as a clone automatically if the IP address, video path and camera number are the same as another camera. This is true for my setup so I think I was good. But...

    Main/Backup camera settings mixup

Good to know thanks. I will disable automatic updates. Is there a tutorial for properly cloning cameras? I have tried to clone in the past with limited success. I assume you would just clone the camera, then manually change the appropriate settings for the duplicate camera (hidden, disable...

    Main/Backup camera settings mixup

Looks like the issue (mostly) resolved itself. Probably due to one of the automatic updates. The "+backup" cameras are hidden duplicates of the original camera instantiation/configuration ("Other cameras"). I would have expected the bitrate and sub bitrate to be populated under the original...

    Main/Backup camera settings mixup

Thanks, I just checked but that isn't the issue. All of the cams in the top section are hidden and assigned to the backup group. All of the cams in the bottom section are not hidden and not assigned to a group.

    Main/Backup camera settings mixup

Hello, I have a handful of cameras, and have them logging to the BI computer (C: = SSD primary drive, D: = HDD storage drive) using the standard New/Stored/Alerts convention. I have also created duplicates of the cameras and have them logging to off site storage (Aux1). What I find strange is...

    Junction box / spacer for PFB203W (5442TM-AS)

yes I did when it was higher (below). Not really when dropped an inch, but I don't have a picture handy.

    Junction box / spacer for PFB203W (5442TM-AS)

this is the view with the camera dropped an inch. Before the facia would be in view in the top right corner where the time stamp is (it was a hassle trying to keep up with DST so I keep everything in UTC and clearly indicate such so there is no question if I have to use footage as evidence).

    Junction box / spacer for PFB203W (5442TM-AS)

Do you mean not to use the 2x6 and attach the mount directly to the facia (requiring a spacer or junction box)? The piece of 2x6 would attach to the side facia (behind the camera as shown in the pic). With the 2x6 drop, the camera would still be visible from anyone on my property (at least in...

    Junction box / spacer for PFB203W (5442TM-AS)

Thanks all. Dropping down a piece of 2x6 from the rafter and making it look nice seems to be the easiest way. Plus it will block the camera view from my neighbor which will avoid any suspicions that I am watching them. I appreciate the input, if there is any more please keep it coming.

    Junction box / spacer for PFB203W (5442TM-AS)

Thanks. Yes I thought about that, but I didn't feel it would look very good. Maybe I will revisit that idea. I guess a better question to ask is: what is the proper / preferred method to mount a camera to an exposed rafter on an eave like this?

    Junction box / spacer for PFB203W (5442TM-AS)

Related question: the PFB203W has a notch that allows the camera to be only mounted in one position if I want to feed the cable through the mount. Unfortunately I need to clock the camera 45 degrees one way or the other. I had to cut an opening in another mount to achieve this (see picture), but...

    Junction box / spacer for PFB203W (5442TM-AS)

Hello all, I am mounting a Dahua 5442TM-AS on the exposed rafter under an eave using a PFB203W mount. Problem I am having is the facia is in view in the top corner of the image. Does anyone know of a junction box or spacer that mounts to the PFB203W and also the camera that would drop the camera...
