You shouldn't mess with ports below 1024 unless you know what you are doing.
As per additional security via VPN - it is nice as long as customers are willing to pay for it.

Best bang for the buck on market, imho. Product and image quality far superior to top HIKvision and Dahua models at similar or lower prices, however totally lack any analytics except for motion detection.

As an installer I honestly see no reason to use IP for simple jobs on budget.
A while ago I've done a dental clinic on very tight budget so I went for local TVT brand AHD cams and DVR. The customer is satisfied for about two years now and doesn't even want to hear about replacing the system...
SD cards inside cameras = camera stolen with all recordings
What are the benefits of IP for simple domestic installations?

Cams could notify about wrong passwords, but I don't think that anyone would implement a feature that you're asking for.

But why going with IP for such simple system while on budget?

192.0.0.x is what NVR's DHCP would give.
Addresses of all cams and nvrs should be within a same subnet.
In this case: 192.168.1.x

Actually, I had some really good experience with cheap telephony wires, twisted pair, 4 pairs. With an amplified balun have a crystal clear picture on over 170 meters, with cable cost under $0.25 per meter.
INMNSHO wireless cameras are unreliable and a realible system would cost much more than a good measure of cables.
Ethernet over Power lines might be an alternative.
