One other thing I can think of is, not sure if applicable or not, if you update windows, it gets slower and slower over time, it's just the way it is. I keep my machine offline for that purpose, it only has LAN access.

well, after deleting the camera and manually adding it back with all its settings how I had them configured ( what a pain ) , it's still recording on both streams. I'm going to go ahead and drop the resolution from 720p to 480p on the substream at the camera's interface.

thanks for the reply, I already tried to restart the camera, no joy. I'm going to delete the camera and see what happens, if that doesnt work im going to lower the sub stream down to a lower resolution, something like 480p. I have 3 dahua 5442's at the moment with one more going up soon.
