Your way would be better for around the lights and bolts though, I have not yet figured out how I'll get around those done My main thing is trying to get rid of the logos, as long as it can blend somewhat, I'll be happy

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

I really have no desire to take it all apart, that would make it something I have to get done. Maybe if I had a spare garage bay it would work If I do it on the machine, I can do section at a time as I have the time, between work etc

Hope you guys like reading about this light tower, because its all I'm going to post for the coming year. Got some compound and tried to get rid of the sunbelt logo, and it did good but took too many passes. I am going to look for some 2000 and 3000 grit sanding disks so I can go a bit deeper, a...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Yeah for $14 thats a no brainer The old owner added the meters, but the wiring could have been better, hopefully he doesn't find this thread :D The wires were not very tight in the meters, and the hot side was wired to the wrong side of the 240v breaker, so if it ever came loose, it would be...

Adjusted the engine speed, made VEERRRYYY small adjustments Went to 61.4hz no load, makes it exactly 60.0 at 3000w, voltage was 120v. PERFECT! Put my labels on the control panel More rust gone, seems like the factory black finish just didn't hold up at all Its so hot out I just do a...

I really don't understand why its not standard on all generators, its such an easy thing to do, and then you can use it properly

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Voltage actually increased, seems to be how these capacitor units function Unloaded is 108v, putting 1000w on there brings it up to around 120v, got to around 124v at 4kw. There will always be at least 2000w on the unit

Voltage is well within range, won't cause any problems I'm going to adjust it to 61hz idle

First time I've used a coupler like it, bit so far it seems to work pretty good. I am missing the pin though, only noticed after driving back 60 miles :D

Just tested it with the interlock powering the whole house, everything worked fine. I did not test the main AC however since I have a soft-start I bet it would work. There is no point running a 4 ton AC when on Backup of my backup generator, it will put you too close to the limit and use too...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

I installed a switch between the Ground to Neutral connection, so if I'm using it on its own, I can flip it to bonded, and if plugged into a house, I can leave it floating Waiting for my label maker to arrive so I can make some instruction

Back to power tests, some very good results. Those who have issues with power out of their light tower either doesn't have enough load on it, or they have some kind of problem they should address. Voltage only really seems to be an issue at very, very low loads. Plugging in the double...

You can see in the last picture the tongue coupler looked rough, fixed that up a little This bracket used to look very junky, not anymore!

120v inlet, decided to go right near the bottom. Had to drill the initial hole with a step bit and then use a hydraulic punch to get the full 1"-15/16 hole for the inlet I put some wood in there just as a buffer before I slipped and hit the tank!

Just got in from some testing! APC SMT1000RM2U line interactive UPS on "Normal" mode it will complain and switch to battery. However, you can choose from "Normal" "Reduced" and "Low" Sensitivity. Changing it to Reduced, it works fine. APC Generally tells you to do this when running on generator...

Boy, lots of updates here. Get ready for a bunch of random notes and posts Went ahead and ordered this block heater kit, I figure there is a good chance this gets used in another Houston snowpocalypse https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07514DBMY?tag=smokstak09-20 Today I fixed up some wiring...

Today and yesterdays task, remove all the nonsense stickers. I really want to also remove the outlines of the stickers. The paint has oxidized where the stickers weren't, so I'll probably have to hit it with some compound or something (Not a paint person!) I need to repair that fender...

Part of me wants the THD meter, but part of me also just thinks plug stuff in, and if it works, it works! Tomorrow I will test with a line interactive UPS and see what it makes of it, if the UPS doesn't complain, I suspect everything else will be fine

I'm hoping the THD from this light tower is pretty good, I wish I had a meter! The guy I bought it from ran his AC and lights all through Beryl with no issue

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

I've not yet powered much from it, but the voltage regulation is not transformer based, but rather capacitor based which doesn't make for very stable voltage. There can be quite wide swings in the voltage, and by default the unloaded voltage is quite high around 134v per leg. I think the power...

Here was 6 days and 6 hours of outage for Hurricane Beryl. We were living life as normal, zero changes. So we can easily reduce things a little. The big 14kw peak was the main 4 ton AC, oven, and microwave going if I recall AS you can see, 6kw would have been fine. Ignore the things crossed...
