    Help with initial setup

I can definitely help with #1. Andy has an Empiretech store set up right on Amazon.ca or you can order from Amazon.com and ship across to Canada too. You can use AliExpress but Amazon is just super easy to do refunds or returns if needed. He should be having a sale from July 15th to the 21st...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Very cool, I like it. Will it do THD monitoring too? Do you run it all off your Blue Iris machine? Might be nice to see photos of how you have that set up if you don't mind sharing.

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

I wish we could have those panel breaker lockouts up here but they're not allowed where I am. Everyone seems to either have a transfer panel (what I use along with a 50A inlet) or one of those generlink meter transfer switches (usually limited to just 30A)...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Wow 27kw!!! Are you guys on natural gas? That must use a ton of fuel at full power for any period of time. We can only use gasoline, diesel or propane where we are so I have to make sure whatever we do decide to use that it will also be available during a disaster. Last major hurricaine we...

Second Dead Hard Disk in BI system

That definitely sounds like it was your issue, very unusual to have drives go bad like that without either heat or voltage being a problem.

    ip camera ip address

How do you connect to see the camera footage? NVR? Blue Iris PC? Other? Does the camera need to connect to the internet?

Unable to connect to camera on uplinked switch

You need to be on the same subnet to reach the cameras in question, if not you won’t be able to see them at all.

    Problems with 4MP camera

I agree, likely a voltage drop issue when loaded, try a poe+ injector on that line specifically and see if it doesn’t work. If it does then you now know how to solve your issue.

    Dead camera?

The gold standard seems to still be the 5442 S3, I have a bunch of these and they work fantastic. Also have great AI but just getting started playing around with it. https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/mini-review-5442-ze-s3-aka-t54ir-ze-s3-replacement-to-5442-ze.73341/

[Solved - POE port went bad] How can I find the IP/network of missing IP cam?

I don’t understand why you would do that instead of assigning each static IP at the camera level? Usually someone would just make them all DHCP and keep track of everything via MAC address. Maybe I’m just missing something?

    Ubiquiti Point to Point Questions

Tony, I know you're well versed on this. It's only 50-80 feet, what about just using something like a Unifi Mesh 6 or similar instead of a point-to-point setup?

Is this rig enough for BI+AI+HomeAssistant?

I assume you already read this: Choosing Hardware for Blue Iris Best to stick to Intel CPUs and Nvidia GPUs but having video card is less important now especially with AI on the cameras improving by leaps and bounds. Ram and OS HD look fine but definitely pick up a WD purple or Seagate...

New Reolink Wired POE Doorbell Cam ?

Yes I’m running this, no issues at all.

New Reolink Wired POE Doorbell Cam ?

How the heck do you have ads if the device can’t even access the internet? Sounds like maybe you’re talking about using the Reolink app but none of us using this doorbell (POE or wifi) in Blue Iris are going to be running that at all. I too love Unify stuff for my network but their security...

[Solved - POE port went bad] How can I find the IP/network of missing IP cam?

If you’re using either Blue Iris (dual NIC) or an NVR then ideally you use those machines to isolate your cameras from the rest of your network. You can also use VLANs but I don’t suggest it unless you’re quite tech savvy. For ease of use I typically set up the main network (which has internet...

[Solved - POE port went bad] How can I find the IP/network of missing IP cam?

This type of situation is why I always like managed switches so you can control access on any port and you get all the info of devices connected to it as well (cameras, rogue relatives, etc). You should start keeping notes of how to manage your devices (IPs, usernames, passwords, etc). It’s a...

[Solved - POE port went bad] How can I find the IP/network of missing IP cam?

Usually in a case like that I would log into the switch and look at what IP was assigned to the port that camera was plugged into. Then I would manually change my IP so I could login to the camera via my browser and add it back to the network again.

    Long outdoors netwok cable run

The gel filled ethernet cable works well in a direct burial or conduit situation (I just used multiple feeds for my pool and garage in 2” conduit at around 150ft away). I've never had any issues terminating it. I use a bit of brake cleaner to remove the gel when terminating then I add more...

    Mini-Review - 5442-Z4E-S3 AKA B54IR-Z4E S3 - Replacement to the 5442-Z4E

I used google maps to measure the distance so it may not be entirely accurate. It sounds like the Z12E gives me the best shot of what I want to do (appears to have the best optical zoom capabilities at 5 mm–60 mm) so I'll try that first and then look at alternatives if need be. Thanks again...

    Mini-Review - 5442-Z4E-S3 AKA B54IR-Z4E S3 - Replacement to the 5442-Z4E

I haven't finished setting things up yet so not sure how good it will be with what I have but the distance from the camera to the capture area is around 400ft. Would one of these be better than the other?
