HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

Got a bit sidetracked but wanted to continue the conversation. No, haven’t been reading all your other posts and yes, I did see the FAQ. I guess my issue is if I have 15 Dahua cameras I want to add, then either the AI Ports go inline or you need another 15 ports on a switch somewhere to accept...

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

AI Key pairs with all Protect cameras that support smart detections, including: G4 Series G5 Series AI Series Cameras connected via AI Port Sadly it looks like the AI key only works with Unifi cameras and not ONVIF (unlike AI Port) The AI Key deployment is good though...

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

The AI ports are like $200 each plus they look clunky as heck and they seem to be constantly sold out. I may try that for a few cameras (if the AI ports come back in stock) just to see how well it performs but I can’t see selling that as a solution to someone. Hopefully they will polish up the...

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

This is exactly what I've been recommending to the "spare no expense" folks because it's a ton of setup time and I really don't want to be babysitting their VPN and Blue Iris setup everytime they have an issue. The Unify stuff does just work and they love to be able to get alerts on their cell...

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

I hear you both @dt-cam and @wittaj you're absolutely right. For now we just have to take it at face value and assume that could be the total extent of their ONVIF integration. I have tons of folks asking me for security system recommendations and it's really hard because there's no real clear...

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

I'm not even sure Unify knows where they are going in the future with the Protect system. Obviously they are trying their best to monitize it but sometimes those efforts can backfire if you try to hem people into an ecosystem that's too expensive/restrictive (early Apple was a good example of...

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

This is exactly what we are all hoping they add to Protect that would make it a serious contender to Blue Iris. Unfortunately for now you can’t do ONVIF triggers just yet.

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Why not just install frost free hose bib connections like we use up north? Something like this. https://www.amazon.com/Eastman-80222-Frost-Free-Sill/dp/B00LGZHTGQ We never drain them or have any issues in sub zero weather.

How insecure is port forwarding for Blue Iris if you have an incredibly strong password?

Exactly, you can think of the hackers like the Eye of Sauron and every time you port forward you are putting on the ring. The longer you wear it, the higher the probability of them getting to you. Much easier to just never put it on or at least know what you’re doing if you must.

Why doesn't Blue Iris sell hourly consulting services?

Had trouble getting time booked too and finally had to drop it for now because I don't have time to chase that stuff. Ideally there really should be multiple consultants set up to be able to handle the work so if one can't do a job another can take over the booked session. This also helps if a...

Looking to purchase cameras and nvr system

X2 on everything @wittaj said above with the exception of the Reolink POE doorbell cams, those are good but everything else I'd get from Empiretech (Black Friday sale soon!)

    Pre-wiring Help

OP is talking about adding cat 6 everywhere to put in more smart POE cameras and you're talking about dumb doorbells as the best option? Wouldn't it make more sense for a disabled individual to be able to have a smart doorbell where they can see and even talk to the person at any door...

    Pre-wiring Help

Given your situation with the relatively high $300 price per cable run and the fact you already have a cable conduit going into the attic (make sure that's sized for growth, 2-3" PVC preferably) I would just go with what you have. The one exception is that I would absolutely add a cable run for...

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

Still need alot more info to decide on value but certainly very promising that they are looking to expand their offerings significantly in the security space.

Man I love it!!! Will likely be impossible to get for a while but I’m sure there’s alot more improvements coming too.

    Long outdoors netwok cable run

As long as that pull tape won’t degrade in water over time and you use a compressor to blow out the standing water and push the foam lube throughout the conduit, I think your fiber pull will likely be alot easier than you anticipate. The lube will help ALOT so I think your idea of using the...

Yes, the black is wider view and white is taller view. (4:3 vs 3:4 ratio)

    Long outdoors netwok cable run

I would do the pull a bit differently. I’d use the pull string to pull something stronger into the conduit like vinyl coated stainless wire rope (much higher breaking strength, you can pull quite hard without worry). I would use electrical tape on that wire rope the whole length of the cable...

    Long outdoors netwok cable run

I think if you're just running a single 1/4" fiber cable that you can definitely pull it through 3/4" conduit (use plenty of the foaming type lube and use your air compressor to push it throughout the conduit as you pull the fiber through). This fiber setup isn't really like an ISP, think of it...

    Long outdoors netwok cable run

Yes, the one I linked to was 24 strand but the specs on it are basically the same as the 12 strand from eBay. If it was an indoor application then that stuff would be perfect but I wouldn't feel good putting that into a buried conduit and giving it my blessing (again because pretty much all...

    Long outdoors netwok cable run

That spool of OM3 was super cheap (great deal) but the issue is that it isn't rated for outdoor use (see link below). Now that doesn't mean it won't work for a long time, just that it's not rated for outdoor exposure or submersion in water (like what would happen in a conduit)...

    Long outdoors netwok cable run

I agree, given what you have so far I would definitely run 1.5” conduit the full length and pull 2 runs inside there so you have separate data streams. The runs are just beyond copper so outdoor rated (armored) multimode OM3 would work great and should be quite economical with plenty of speed...

Locating a lost Blue Iris key

Title pretty much says it all but I had trouble with BI and couldn't get back in again so I need to reinstall it again. I sent an email to support@blueirissoftware.com and haven't heard anything back. If you don't have the email they sent out when you originally bought the key is there any...

[SOLVED] Hikvision NVR Won't Recognize Camera Using Ubiquiti Nanostations

Yep, 24V is definitely old school at this point. @BigMoe, I agree with Tony, the easiest way to start is to take the hand drawn diagram and write down all the IP addresses of all the components (ie everything except the POE injectors) and post it again. Then we can see if there's an IP...

New Reolink Wired POE Doorbell Cam ?

Are you also integrating the ONVIF camera triggers into Home Assistant too? If it works well I might have to try that instead of just using the BI phone app for push notifications. Do you use HA just for the alert then switch over to the BI app to review the clips? Curious how you're doing it.
