    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Yeah 1000 grit is really fine for cutting paint, at least drop down to 600 for wet sanding and be careful not to burn through the edges. Then work your way back up to 1500 (600, 800, 1000, 1500) and finally buff it all shiny again. Definitely looking much better.

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

They are very hard to find used and in good condition, especially fully set up with all that stuff. It definitely wouldn’t last long before someone snatched it up. Again that’s really a pro setup but makes the job so much easier/faster.

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Yes very likely it will be quite expensive to sand blast and powder coat it all again. If you have cars that get dinged, bumped, lightly scratched, etc then that buffer setup I linked to will make short work of that and this generator job too. Again there is an investment but the compound lasts...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Totally your call, just may be hard to get it evened out with it all assembled. Heck if it was apart you could even take it to be powder coated too (you can even change the color if you wanted). Anyway at the very least I would try the 3M compound (use a different pad for each compound grit) and...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Honestly the easiest way to do that would be to completely remove the sheet metal, sand/buff everything then reinstall it all again. I use a buffer like this and it makes quick work of paint cutting/buffing. https://www.amazon.com/Makita-9237C-7-Inch-Polisher-Sander/dp/B00LA6M64G Quick...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Great job on that and it was smart to replace the capacitor because they do wear out over time. Should keep everything running well in the future. I also like the meters you have mounted on both legs (I have one too but due to limited space it just shows voltage or frequency on one leg).

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

I agree. Most good generators have a way to go from bonded to unbonded (often just removing a screw internally) but I’ve never seen one from the factory switched that way.

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

So the voltage didn’t drop as long as you kept it loaded? What was the range you saw? That frequency should help keep everything happy.

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

I have the same thing on my generator I built, very handy in case you need it to be portable or to use it on a jobsite. Does need a label to make sure you know which is bonded and which isn’t.

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Great update and alot of testing and work on it for sure. I would definitely make some adjustments so that your frequency never falls below 60hz and also that voltage drop is a killer for any circuit boards so not sure if there’s an adjustment for voltage regulation on the generator head or not...

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

A few years ago the offerings weren’t nearly as good (G3, G4, G5 series) but the introduction of the AI Pro and G6 models have been quite a game changer. The 3rd party cameras still have a bit of an edge (ex only the expensive AI Pro has optical zoom) but that gap closed dramatically with their...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

I can’t really find anything on that specific unit other than this: GENERATOR • Marathon Electric® Brushless • 6 kW standby output • 120/240 VAC – 50/25A • +/-6% capacitor voltage regulation Too bad you’re not closer or I’d let you borrow my power meter to check it out. That’s the only real...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

The problem isn’t so much voltage regulation (higher voltage is always better than too low for circuit boards) as it is THD (how close the AC generated power sine wave is to being a perfect sine wave). Now smaller portable generators usually vary wildly on THD but these larger units are usually...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

That’s exactly what I was going to use if I switched over to diesel, those things run forever on fumes so as long as you can get by with 6kw then you’re golden. For $1200 that was a steal.

Experience with Unifi Protect and UNVR Pro

My hats off to you, sounds like you really went above and beyond for her. Funny how it’s often the rich folks that cheap out and sometimes end up spending much more than if they had just done it right from the start.

I have no time for that stuff, that would have received a huge PITA charge for sure. Folks like that are never happy no matter how good your install was.

Experience with Unifi Protect and UNVR Pro

Yeah it’s expensive to go all in on the Ubiquiti ecosystem, especially for a homeowner. The Cloud Keys are just a fancy term for Ubiquiti’s controller. That Dream Machine she had should also have a controller too. Sounds like she had several generations of equipment in there.

Experience with Unifi Protect and UNVR Pro

I’ve been using their networking equipment for a long time (mainly switches, APs) because you’re right, the stuff just works and you don’t need any crazy licensing like Meraki. I prefer using PFsense or OPNsense on the front end unless it’s a very small install or it’s for someone that just...

Experience with Unifi Protect and UNVR Pro

Can’t disagree with any of that, I’ll just have to see how it actually does under normal operating conditions. I suspect that improvements to AI and integration with 3rd party ONVIF cameras will bridge much of this in the not too distant future.

Experience with Unifi Protect and UNVR Pro

Yeah 3x isn’t great for an LPR but the AI DSLR has a 45mm fixed focal length so I’ll be curious to see what that looks like at distance. I know it doesn’t have true IR night vision but it’s supposed to have exceptional low light performance so a well lit parking lot should be a good test for it.

Experience with Unifi Protect and UNVR Pro

I have a bar owner I’m helping to set up a full Protect system (full rack Enterprise NVR) and I haven’t really played much with their higher end AI Pro cameras. He wants all the facial recognition stuff as well as the ability for nighttime LPR so we may try the AI Pro, AI LPR and the DSLR Pro to...

Experience with Unifi Protect and UNVR Pro

I totally agree their AI stuff needs work but honestly the way it integrates with 3rd party stuff already is just fantastic, absolutely blew me away how well it performed especially mobile access. You can’t get sound or motion/AI events (incl night LPR) yet but that is definitely coming. Yes...

Experience with Unifi Protect and UNVR Pro

Yes it definitely wasn’t cheap to do it all at once but you can start piecing together a system over time and buying used stuff off eBay, FB marketplace, etc. If you want to start playing around with Protect then just get yourself a Cloudkey Gen 2 plus first (you can run 2-3 cameras on that) and...

Experience with Unifi Protect and UNVR Pro

I got almost everything straight from Ubiquiti in Canada (their canadian website ca.store.ui.com ). The hard drives came from B&H photo in the US (cheapest price I could find on them). The 3rd party cameras were from Empiretech on Amazon.com and got the doorbells there too.

Adoption issue with NVR pro Ubiquiti

Can you see all the cameras on the switch and do they all have their assigned static IPs or is there an issue with one of them (ex a 169.x.x.x address)?

Adoption issue with NVR pro Ubiquiti

Depends on the type of cameras, I believe the Pro can handle up to (35) 2K or (24) 4K cameras.

Experience with Unifi Protect and UNVR Pro

Its been a while since I last posted on here but since getting Blue Iris up and running the way I wanted was giving me fits I had decided to try Unifi Protect since it recently allowed 3rd party camera adoption. The result just blew me away. I ended up purchasing a Cloud Key Gen 2 Plus...

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

Yeah my concern was the software limiting the number of cameras that can be added. I thought there weren't any software limits (only hardware limits) but wasn't sure.

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

Is this a Dream Machine limit or is that the Protect software itself. I'd have a hard time believing that the UNVR Pro limits to just 8 ONVIF streams but I haven't looked into it enough to verify this yet.
