VPN and multiple cameras at multiple sites

Need some help wrapping my head around this> If I have three sites, and multiple cameras at each site, right now I've got ports forwarded in my router which I know isn't the safest thing (10+ years of IT knowledge here) My family uses these cameras to "see what is out there" at our vacation...

    Variable Lens

All I saw in the wiki in the blue bar was a lot about Blue Iris, which I have no intention of using....Can you post a link to the material in question about lenses?

    Variable Lens

Why would a camera show it in degrees instead of mm? Motorized Varifocal Lens 57°-106°

    Variable Lens

So a Varifocus lens would be useful for a gate or a driveway where you know someone is going to be. Otherwise a fixed 2.8mm lens is better for covering a wider area just "to see what is out there"? If I understood your explanation correctly, it was a fantastic explanation!

    Variable Lens

What is the purpose of a variable lens in a camera? What does it do for quality, detection, etc? I see a lot of Amcrest cameras with 2.8MM and then then there are variable lens cameras....don't understand the difference...

Accessing the SD card from Windows

I've got a few Amcrest IP2M-841-V3 cameras that I would like to access the SD card from, without having to go through the GUI to download each individual picture. Is there a way to do this that I just haven't discovered? I know I can pull the SD card out, but that is a pain for a lot of my...

    Wiring IP Cameras

Actually I've given quite a lot of information about my situation, so not sure what else you are asking for. At this time I just can't see any easy to wire up my cameras without making a lot of holes in my house and then patching, texturing, and painting them.

    Wiring IP Cameras

Either, indoor or outdoor, still would have to tear walls apart. No attic or crawl space. Can't core or drill into the foundation, I've got post tension cables in the cement slab..... Just trying to route them around studs and firewalls without drilling through them and al that, they sure...

What do you think of these two cameras for a first time setup

This is going to sound like a very Newbie question, but does Dahau cameras have the same features as Amcrest cameras? I know Amcrest cameras are rebranded Dahau's but I've got zero experience with them. Does Dahau make any of their own branded camera? I see the same model numbers like...

Looking for recomendations for an outdoor camera

I've got all my network connections coming into the router, and just one RJ45 cable going to the modem. That all seems like a lot of extra cabling. I use the Web GUI on the cameras directly, don't use Blue Iris or any other controlling program....

Looking for recomendations for an outdoor camera

If I put a POE switch at my router and ran Ethernet through the AC powerline adapters, it would NOT bring the POE out the other end correct? Looking for recomendations for an outdoor camera

Let me throw another scenario out there I have 4 POE IP cameras in the garage. I run RJ45 from each of these cameras to a POE+ switch. I connect the LAN port to a POE access point that is inside the house...would that work? I really can't justify running RJ45 all around my house through or...

Looking for recomendations for an outdoor camera

Ya, the biggest problem I have is that it would require running a lot of cable through a house, punching holes in walls, ceilings, stucco, etc. Not the best at patching..... Whats the most common setup for houses, have a POE switch at a central location and just run CAT6 cable all over the house?
