    Overlap

Please see the attached image. These are both Dahua 1/2.8mm cams from one corner of the house. I have another one on the other side of the house and plan to install one more on that same other side to overlook the cars. I have one more cam covering the front entrance (kind of useless due to the...

    Bullet Cameras Mounted Portrait

BlueIris can rotate the images, even with Direct to Disc recording (I believe). The bigger issue is the protection. I guess I could fabricate something with plastic bottles.

    Bullet Cameras Mounted Portrait

I bought this used Dahua bullet cam from Andy. Quite obviously, I wasn't thinking much when purchasing it. If you look at the attached image this cam should be clearly mounted in a portrait position and not landscape. I am just recording a lot of wall and fence. Do people actually mount bullet...

    Difference Between IPC-T5442M-AS and IPC-T5442TM-AS

Is there a difference between the IPC-T5442M-AS and IPC-T5442TM-AS? My invoice lists the former but the camera model the 'T' in the model name. A google search didn't bring up much. Maybe more letters = better/newer?! ;)

    PoE Extenders

All my CAT6 cables behind walls are solid copper cables (23 AWG). Audio cables are 12AWG stranded. Cables for shades are 14/4 stranded plus CAT 6 cables. All are CMR rated. They are made be Belden, i.e. a brand I trust (though kind of expensive). I am not too much worried about those cables. So...

    PoE Extenders

I don't know about all the electrical stuff but we are in CA, we did a complete remodel, we wanted to have exterior AC outlets and we did go through a complete inspection including the exterior outlets. All of this should be up to code unless both our electrician and inspector failed. I will be...

    PoE Extenders

I have not considered junction boxes for my cams but I do use them for lights, Thinking about it, that might be the way to go. Then I can hide the splitter in the junction box and only have one cable coming out for the second cam. I am just not sure if this splitter will really fit into that...

    PoE Extenders

That gray box is an AC outlet which I am using for my X-mas display. I am not using the for the cams unless you thing it could be useful. I only have them at a few places, though and those places are not really ideal of cams except for this one particular image.

    PoE Extenders

Attached is an image of my first dual-cam setup. The original cam (which I am going to replace) it the one to the upper right (the dome cam. The Ethernet cable comes is behind the camera (a small hole in the wall). Hence, in the original setup you couldn't see any cable at all. But now that...

    PoE Extenders

I bought a few Linovision PoE extenders and they work fine. However, I really would like to put them behind the wall. That way I only have one CAT5e/6 cable coming out for the second camera. Otherwise I have two cable going into the existing cam (one for the original cable, one for the existing...

    Storage Requirement

I don't seem to have such an option. See attachment. Is it because I am on an old version of BI, i.e. 5.3.3.8?

    Storage Requirement

Are we talking about "Triggered + continuous each"? Is this always recording the substream and then switches to the main stream when triggered.
  15. R

    Storage Requirement

Are most people here recording the substream and then record the main stream when there is a trigger? That seems kind of reasonable. But how do you set this up that way? I didn't see any such setting in BI. As for fps, I am recording at 15fps. Maybe I should lower that to 10fps except for the...

    Storage Requirement

I record continuously at full res. Previously I only recorded on triggers but I ended up missing important events (police did come by a couple of times and each time I didn't have the recording they were looking for). So how does this "continuous + triggers" work and may I end up in the same...

    Storage Requirement

Our cams seem to use a lot of disk space. Each cam is using about 2GByte per hour so about 50 GBytes/day/cam. With a dozen cams that is about 600 GBytes/day. The cams are set at 8kbps VBR (going to change it to CBR) so that should be 8192 bits/8bits/byte*24h/day*60minutes/hour*60seconds/minute =...

    Settings for IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E

I suspect that the person in lpr4.png doesn't have a front facing license plate. But the other cars lpr2.png and lpr3.png worked pretty well with the suggested settings recommended above.

    Settings for IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E

Thanks. I finally found the menu for the schedule. I also downloaded the utility from GitHub - bp2008/DahuaSunriseSunset: A Windows Service which changes the profile of dahua cameras between Night and Day at each sunset and sunrise. The tool is a little bit confusing because there is not save...

    Settings for IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E

I am sorry about my ignorance but I did go through a bunch of threads and all the menus in the camera setting but I can't see how to switch between the night and day mode. For day mode the default settings seem just fine to read license plates. For night I am trying the suggested settings but...

    IPC-HDW5442T-ZE artifacts

Huh, I guess I need to switch my cams back to H264 and CBR. That is a very good explanation that makes a lot of sense. I haven't tried this myself but trust what you are saying.

    Settings for IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E

@samplenhold Thanks a lot for those screenshots. I did see a really good thread about setting up this cam and left it open in an IE window. But Windows decided to reboot and it didn't reopen the window... I did set up the cam as you suggested and go from there. Next I need to figure out how to...

    IPC-HDW5442T-ZE artifacts

Is there a reason to prefer CBR over VBR and H.264 over H.265? Reading the forum it seems H.265 had some compatibility issues some years ago but it seems it is the preferred option these days. Or am I wrong? As for CBR vs VBR doesn't make VBR more sense as it just uses the bandwidth it needs to...

    Where to buy HFW5241E-Z12E?

The HFW5241E-Z12E is what I just bought a couple of months ago and I am finally setting it up. Based on all I read on this forum that is still the best camera for LPR in this price range (~$200). I bought it from Andy (Empiretecandy). I bought it directly from him rather than through Amazon. It...

    Settings for IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E

I finally got my IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E temporarily installed to read license plates. I can get it higher up and/or closer to the street, though I prefer the current position to reduce vandalism. The problem I am having is that during night time the license plate becomes so bright that you can't see...

    IPC-HDBW5442H-ZE vs IPC-HDBW5442H-Z4E

I have no need for audio and I don't have the cabling for audio, either. So maybe I will go with the Z4E as I am pushing the limit on the ZE (12mm) unless there is something that speaks against the bullet Z4E. One will be mounted on a (vertical) wall and one on a soffit.

    1/1.2mm Cams for <$200

What is the most popular 1/1.2" cam? I might be willing to spend a bit more than $200/cam for the cams in the front where it matters the most.

    IPC-HDBW5442H-ZE vs IPC-HDBW5442H-Z4E

Is there any reason why I should prefer an IPC-HDW5442T-ZE (2.7mm - 12mm, turret) over an IPC-HFW5442E-Z4E (8mm - 32mm, bullet as there doesn't seem to be any 8mm-32mm turret)? If I mount the cams where I have Ethernet cables coming out the wall then about 12mm is the right focal length so both...

    1/1.2mm Cams for <$200

I am in the process of replacing my HikVision cams. I bought 3 Dahua cams including the IPC-T5442T-ZE and IPC-T5449H-ASE-D2-6mm plus one for license plate readings. I was wondering if there are any better cams in the $200 range that might outperform the IPC-T5442T-ZE. I kind of like the...
