China's new 'super camera' can instantly pinpoint specific targets among tens of thousands of people

DARPA shows off 1.8-gigapixel surveillance drone, can spot a terrorist from 20,000 feet - ExtremeTech And that was from 2013. Imagine what they have now, but aren't talking about.

Post your must have installation tools

A plastic kitty litter bucket or two to carry the particular assortment of tools and parts I've selected for a particular phase of a job, so I don't have to carry everything everywhere.

Poor Video Quality - Laptop Monitor Too Bright

People forget that security camera use is exactly like any other photography. There is always a limit to the dynamic range (the range of brightnesses) that can be captured. I always point out that any camera system can only capture a "slice" of the scene's dynamic range. And when you set the...

Help Surv Co Owner Design his home system?

As has been said: Drywall was made to be cut, drilled, and patched. Get one of these things: Variable Speed Oscillating Multi-Tool You'll end up looking for excuses to cut holes in drywall. ;) And they're great for cutting baseboard and other things. Heck, you can even remove your own...

Is there a Ip wireless camera that supports basic authentication

You could probably write a little script or program to set the timing of the "refresh". It seems like seeing a new image every minute or two, even every five minutes, would let people know if the courts are crowded or not.

    My Mouse Died

While bait is amazingly effective for mousetraps, the other main factor is proper placement of the traps so their triggers are in main "runway paths". And of course, adjusting them for high sensitivity. Mice like to run along walls and other obstructions. It's probably safety instinct...

    New member is completely lost...

I can't speak for everyone, but for me, having an ethernet port that I can set up to whatever subnet I want, and having a POE switch on that port is very handy for "commissioning" new cameras and other ethernet devices. To that end, I have a USB to Ethernet gadget and a small, inexpensive...

5.0.3 - New Edge Vector Motion Algorithm

If this does reduce the false positives from tree shadows in the wind, and car headlights sweeping my yard and porch, that certainly will be a big plus.

Providing BI videos to law enforcement - need advice!

I forget. Does BI have the option to substitute the "Benny Hill" music for the audio track, or am I imagining that?

When would you not want full-time motion only recording?

The motion alerts are nice for quickly finding the action. But as @bigredfish said, having full-time recording assures that you capture everything that you need, even if it hasn't yet triggered an alert or if the movement stops for a while. And you can have both (at least you can with Blue...

    $2M House Install (est. 1925)

Good positive sealing is definitely a must here. Not just to protect the electrical connections, but also to prevent ingress of air, water, sand, bugs, etc. So we'd want to do all of the things you mention if using one of those mounts. They really are attractive, IMO. We get 80+ mph winds...

My UPS Caught Fire Last Night

Yes. It makes sense to keep gadgets that could potentially catch fire well away from highly flammable materials. Likewise, providing adequate space for proper ventilation for heat-producing devices is also a good idea. And manufacturers have a responsibility to design their products to be...

Water-Proof Junction box vs Wall Mount Bracket

I hav not used that particular box. But it seems to have several threaded conduit entry points with screw-in plugs sealing them until you remove one for your conduit fitting. Here's a listing with more photos...

    Problem After BI Disk Upgrade

I've used macrium reflect free for years on many machines to clone their boot drives so I could replace or upgrade their boot drives to larger ones or SSDs, etc. It has always worked perfectly. I'm not sure what you read or where, but maybe it's talking about doing incremental backups or the...

    POE IP Microphone

A while back, I looked a bit for an IP audio interface to which I could feed an existing audio stream so BI could record that audio. The units I found were quite expensive. In the end, I modified an inexpensive IP security camera to bypass its internal microphone and gave it a transformer to...

    Raccoon Oooppsss

Sometimes the ones here are a little out of shape. I spooked a pair of them out of a tree next to our back porch and they tried to run away and climb the fence into the neighbor's yard. And I kid you not, you could hear them huffing and puffing, and they struggled to climb the fence, then...

    $2M House Install (est. 1925)

If you bought a 121, could you steal its cover and use it on your already-mounted 122 base? Then you'd have a complete extra 122 setup. I was looking at one of the new 4K starlights, but they do have a four hole mount if I recall correctly. So I'd be in the same boat if I wanted to try one...

    $2M House Install (est. 1925)

Unless I'm misreading the diagrams, the problem I'd have with the PFB203W would be that there is no real seal for the area where the cam connectors "live", nor for the wire hole into the building. So I'd need to seal the actual cable connections and seal around the wire hole through the wall...
