New Hik cam issues (LTS rebranded Hik's)

Just to update...even though the camera is now up and running I can view successfully from web browser on pc but unable to view from smartphone app for some reason (both LAN and WAN connection)? I did change some info as I always do with my cams like http / rtsp ports but I know I am using the...

New Hik cam issues (LTS rebranded Hik's)

Disregard the thread folks....I feel stupid trying the SADP software that came with the camera...big mistake I guess. Redownloaded from Hik website and worked like a charm...all Hik cams showed up with default ip's of 192.0.0.64 and then I changed to local LAN. Had me chasing my tail for...

New Hik cam issues (LTS rebranded Hik's)

Hey all just got a few CMIP3042W Hik's yesterday (4mp Turret's) and went to install one today and experiencing a weird issue. The cam powers on when plugged in a POE switch but then after about 30 secs the red LED lights go off and it appears to power down? I tried hooking the cam up to 3...

Using Port Triggering instead of Port Forwarding

nayr- Appreciate the response....I def understand the "jist" of having a vpn on the network but thx for going into detail as well:) Just a few more ?'s if you don't mind: 1. Would you say configure vpn server on router or on a pc within your network for best performance / throughput? 2...

Using Port Triggering instead of Port Forwarding

nayr- Can you elaborate on your VPN solution? I have been tossing around the idea of setting up openvpn now for months and really wanting to pull the trigger but still a little hazy on the setup. Thanks....

Firm up choices for Cam Location...detailed pics included!

Klasipca / del-boy Thanks for the assistance seems I am learning all the time and greatly appreciate the conversation. Del-boy, I agree with about everything you said and have pretty much made up my mind (I think...lol) to go with 4mp for both the driveway and porch. Only difference is I...

Well with this in mind klasipca, wouldn't you say 4mp kind of gives me the best of both worlds (day/night)?

Firm up choices for Cam Location...detailed pics included!

Yeah it would be a real pita to run a wire next to the keypad but I appreciate your suggestion. I think I would be able to fit two cams on that eve where the current cam is located. But after talking to the wifey.... We have decided right now to deal with just the one cam and focus or...

Here is a pic of the corner where the current cam is mounted....I may be able to squeeze another one in there...not sure?

Firm up choices for Cam Location...detailed pics included!

Thanks for your feedback..really appreciate it. I don't think I have room on the corner eve (where the current cam is mounted) for an additional cam pointing towards the trailer and boat. To be honest, we live in a pretty rural area and I don't really foresee any issues with someone breaking...

Firm up choices for Cam Location...detailed pics included!

Hmmmm, decisions decisions....lol I have a utility trailer and small boat parked to the left that you can't see. Other than that we park both cars in the garage. The only time a threat of someone breaking into a vehicle parked would be if family and friends are over in which that case I...

Firm up choices for Cam Location...detailed pics included!

bp2008- Thanks for your input...certainly appreciate it. I could def see the front porch cam being 4mm or 6mm but was just assuming the driveway would be 2.8 due to the wide area to cover. I will def have to consider the 4mm for the driveway as well then.

Firm up choices for Cam Location...detailed pics included!

All- I had another thread open for my backyard cam that I am "tabling" for now until I get a chance to test out a 3mp turret that I have to see how the night image is going to be: https://www.ipcamtalk.com/showthread.php/7091-Cam-Location-Pic-%282-8mm-or-4mm%29?p=64371#post64371 So, I decided...

Cam Location Pic (2.8mm or 4mm)?

I think what I am going to do is take my 3mp turret that I have designated at another location and try it at this new location in the backyard and see what the image looks like. Then I guess we can go from there as to if it's a viable option or if I should go with something with better night...

Cam Location Pic (2.8mm or 4mm)?

pozzello- Thanks for sharing the night shot. It looks like you can see decent all the way to the fence even at night....and you said that's about 40-45 feet? I do not think my furthest door is any farther than that...maybe even closer. Those turrets most likely have and effective IR range of...

Cam Location Pic (2.8mm or 4mm)?

pozzello- That layout does seem similar to the area I am trying to cover. Can you post a night view so I can see what all that 3MP Hik captures? And I assume the night image is with no additional lighting which would really give me a good idea of what area just using the IR's will cover?

Cam Location Pic (2.8mm or 4mm)?

Thanks for your suggestions Razer and explaining the differences between 2,3 and 4MP field of view which is an important factor in this selection. With that in mind...any suggestions on cams...specifically Hik's?

Cam Location Pic (2.8mm or 4mm)?

Exactly what I am thinking..definitely learning towards the 4mm over the 2.8 at this point. Now I just need to narrow down some camera options:) - - - Updated - - - Thanks for the suggestion but I'm not in the mood to run wire for 2 more cameras:)

Cam Location Pic (2.8mm or 4mm)?

I saw your link above comparing the turret to the dome. Interesting findings indeed....I was always satisfied with the night image of the turret's...possibly because my current cams suck so bad at night I guess:) Do they make the 2142 dome in 4mm or just 2.8? The more I think about it the...

Cam Location Pic (2.8mm or 4mm)?

What specifically would you need to see in regards to a picture to help better assist me? As you stated above a satellite image, a pic standing in the backyard looking at the back of the house, etc? Please elaborate and I will provide:)

Cam Location Pic (2.8mm or 4mm)?

Not sure about your theory about the Hiks having poor night vision...especially these turret's? Anyway, I had a 3MP 4mm turret set up over at a relative's house for a few months in between someone moving in permanently (just to keep an eye on the residence) and the night viewing was exceptional...

Cam Location Pic (2.8mm or 4mm)?

Thanks for the good feedback....I may go with the 4mm to really hone in on the doors...I am not all that concerned about capturing yard "area".

Cam Location Pic (2.8mm or 4mm)?

Thanks for the suggestion but I will stick with a dome or turret for now until the mini ptz has been tested thoroughly for it's reliability. You always have to wonder how long that ptz motor is going to last in a 100-200 cam:)

Cam Location Pic (2.8mm or 4mm)?

Q2U...thanks for your opinion on lens width. I assume from what your saying you think the 2.8 will capture the yard as well as still capture the door(s) entrance way? And in reference to why the camera is view is so close to the wall is my current camera's night vision is so terrible (age)...

Cam Location Pic (2.8mm or 4mm)?

Hey all...hoping some others can offer their opinion on whether to go with a 2.8mm or 4mm lens for this location....I am thinking go with the wider 2.8mm so that I can cover more of the yard but really the priority is to try and get coverage for all 3 door locations. Not sure if the wider lens...

    Opening Garage Door?

vector18 or michelin man- Just wanted to follow up and explain that I did some more digging on the specifics of my particular cam and this is what I read in the owners manual. I am by no means an electrical expert so I was just curious which DIO terminal to use for the +5V DC power to go to...

    Advice on IP cam

OP- I will try to help you out....the only thing throwing me for a loop is how well any camera is going to do behind that window when IR will be reflected back. And the other thing is if only the parking lot had decent lighting where you could turn off the IR on the camera. Anyway...the only...
