The Dreaded GAP. Very Frustrated New User

Double check that CPU. It should either be: i5-6500T (4c/4t) or i7-6700T (4c/8t). One is mid-range + low-power the other is higher-tier but still low-power. What's your Blue Iris desktop view refresh rate (unlimited or something less)? If you are running Blue Iris as a service, you should be...

    Ubiquiti Loco M5 Issue

Ahh, so possibly under that shield is some real damage then. I would think if it was a 48V supply the damage would have been in the power circuit, and usually the cans cover more the RF circuits. However, maybe the hi-power RF module has more or less a direct power feed. If you can't get it...

Probably missed something but first glance of that photo I'm not seeing what burnt. Did it SMELL burnt, from lots of experience that's never good.

Expert Recommendations for Live Streaming Camera

Over a long period I have gotten really good advice on these forums. I have a coworker that happens to have a nice "river" view, and he wants to stream it (his thinking is ofc youtube), but he doesn't really want a dedicated computer setup purely for that purpose (he has one today for the Dahua...

    Trying to understand Hardware Acceleration

Please post your system specs including RAM (this CPU can support 2 channels of RAM), and which NVIDIA card you are using. I will echo some earlier comments, I am currently migrating my Blue Iris off a i7-2600K desktop gaming CPU (which is superior in all aspects to your 2760QM). You are...

Good place to get fiber optic cable?

I miss that, my house in the midwest is the same, black dirt at least a couple feet down. The house in Colorado is clay nearly to the surface. Miss the midwest dirt when I garden.

OMG that third subject must be at least 2 FEET taller than the cop. Love the video!

Bike Rider Has A Close Call

I'm surprised he wasn't emptying his pants there on the shoulder. It's hard to tell from the angle, but based on the number of lanes how close do you think he ended up to that car?

Good place to get fiber optic cable?

Disclaimer: I've never done this personally. You should also consider a point-to-point encrypted wireless link with some Ubiquity Nanostation or Ubiquity locoM5. Are you planning to bury the power lines inside conduit running between the buildings, or will this be direct burial for both power...

    Haven't posted in a while

That looks to me like "we just spent 5 minutes cutting open the door", now we're inside and there is a really good chance the cops are notified and there is a coin "piggy bank" here that's going to take another 3 hours to open. The real loss here is the damage to that steel door & frame they...

Raspberry Pi Users Unite: What are you using your Raspberry Pi Devices For?

I also purchased a couple wESP (ESP32 boards powered by POE, wESP32 - wESP32 — Wired ESP32 with PoE), that might be a good option if you are more advanced and need more CPU power than ESP8266, or if you need more than 16 GPIO on the ESP8266. It also provides the option for wired network...

Raspberry Pi Users Unite: What are you using your Raspberry Pi Devices For?

The kit came with the little 5V USB wall plugs and a little cable to run to the ESP8266 to power it off 5V. The network being wireless-only means install anywhere there is an outlet. I hope someday to expand my understanding, because the ESP8266 can be put into a deep sleep (somehow) so it...

Raspberry Pi Users Unite: What are you using your Raspberry Pi Devices For?

@samplenhold the Raspberry Pi isn’t absolutely required. Unless your grandson hates electronics, assembling the ESP8266, with sensors and soldering is more hands on. However, if he’s interested in computers, this might spur something because it’s more Involved than typical Windows Setup.exe...

Raspberry Pi Users Unite: What are you using your Raspberry Pi Devices For?

@Frankenscript , @bp2008 Sure, hopefully this helps. Refer to: ESP8266 Publishing DHT Readings Raspberry Pi | Random Nerd Tutorials for a basic idea that I started from. My end point was a little different. ESP8266 running "ESP Easy Mega" firmware. This firmware sure beats trying to write...

where do i buy a sata cable for uniview motherboards and what is its name?

Probably showing my age here, but that looks a lot like a FLOPPY power connector (Berg connector - Wikipedia) to SATA power connector. Something like this: Amazon.com: 4-Pin Floppy Drive to 15 Pin SATA Male Power Cable: Computers & Accessories the color code sequence RED-BLACK-BLACK-YELLOW...

Who no love for AMD CPU's?

I KNOW!! 8-Channel Memory Support, Faster Memory Support, and Higher Core Frequencies than EPYC but still with substantial PCIE4.0 lanes. Not actually sure how the price will compare, but when I saw that announced I had some regrets. I think the first workstation I saw listing this processor...

    CPU's ???

EPYC + MB + Used Memory: $1600, but the memory was used, and for 128GB like you have, add another $400 USED, probably 25% more for new. You can see all the crazy details in this thread: Finally Completed - New EPYC build & Limit Test - (Extremely Unnecessary Builds) But had I ordered after...

    CPU's ???

i7-8700 with sub-streams enabled is the answer imho. With sub-streams it's waaaaay more than you should need unless you plan to do multi-camera simultaneous playback, but it's modern and has some legs and good compatibility.

Who no love for AMD CPU's?

Yeah I agree with that, they are capable. They just won't get recommended a lot because you can get a cheaper Intel system used that provides hardware decode acceleration within the graphics core that is already compatible with Blue Iris. I have built a nice AMD EPYC system, but best...

Who no love for AMD CPU's?

Prior to sub-streams, 4-channel might have been necessary for high-MP/s systems (somewhere between 1500-2200 MP/s). Now, provided there isn't some really good reason you cannot use sub-streams, I suspect it's become a non-issue.

Who no love for AMD CPU's?

I believe Renoir will have Zen 2 cores, being released in 2020, while the latest non-APU chips will be Zen 3. That’s my point is the AMD APU’s besides not being supported by Blue Iris (for decode accel) at this time, incorporate a generation-behind CPU core. I have Zen 2 in my EPYC chip, it’s...

Who no love for AMD CPU's?

Intel: Higher Core Counts with integrated GPU. AMD: Run integrated graphics with a generation behind processor core, or run dedicated graphics for more watts consumed without necessarily needing it. Both potentially bad options for a 24x7 system. Honestly now with sub-streams, I think we'll...

Considering a move from Arlo to wired IP cameras

You will certainly get a broad range of recommendations while you explore your options. You could end up with a hardware box NVR, or even go the computer+Blue Iris route (both are popular here). Your brand agnostic requirement might actually be one of the key factors so good to mention it...

Larger system unstable - where's the issue?

Glad those Unifi AP AC Lite are working for you, but usually when building wireless backbone/backhaul I think the typical recommendations run more towards Ubiquity NanoStation 5 or Nanonstation Loco or other point-to-point transparent bridge solution which work differently than access points...

    Nanny Camera

@EMPIRETECANDY at least the model I have worked both as wifi camera and wired with BI. Those snapshots are from BI. Also my Amcrest PTZ doesn't appear to support POE, more of an FYI if your location you plan to use it wouldn't have an outlet nearby. @Chura maybe worth testing as soon as you...

    Nanny Camera

Yeah forgot about this last night. But here's a simple shot with two 40 watt can lights directly overhead. The Amcrest PTX is sharper, it also looks better in total darkness and has the benefit of double-clicking on the image controls the PTZ to recenter and zoom which might be kind of nice...

    Nanny Camera

I happen to have both a recent Amcrest PTZ (IP2M-841B, 2MP) & @EMPIRETECANDY Dahua (DH-IPC-K35A, 3MP). If it would help I can setup a quick side-by-side after work if you really need to see the difference between them. I just need to know whether indoor low-light, indoor moderate lighting...

    Not worth it using cameras

Maybe he committed a crime and recorded it on his own cameras and got himself in trouble, because that could fit the situation. If the cameras caught an actual crime would the cops need to confiscate your NVR to preserve the video for prosecution? Would be good to know in case they show up to...
