Is mobile app purchase necessary for each device accessing Blue Iris PC

Is it the case that for each mobile device accessing the Blue Iris PC over the web, the mobile app has to be purchased? Assume the access is using zerotier or similar VPN.

Installing a two lens camera at front door

What is a good way to install a two-lens front door camera (boobie-cam)? It needs to be installed on a wall that is masonry, behind which is solid lumber framing, so no wall cavity. Between the bulk of the camera, and a box behind it to accommodate the pigtail, that’s quite a bit sticking out...

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

Nice job. Got to get power there if putting in a switch. Nothing beats having known a lot more up-front, running many more ethernet runs to many locations and to many heights, when there was the opportunity. Next time ...

    Outdoor RJ45 Couplers & Housings

Thank you for the link to the wiki - have been perusing it but missed this point. Underscores that there is great info there.

Sounds like a good thing to do then. Thank you for the original mention above, as well as additional opinions.

Could filling the female jacks with dielectric grease get in the way of establishing desired conductivity between the connected conductors/contacts?

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

@ron351 Snipping/breaking off the ears would sure make for a neater install. At the time not knowing that there are camera boxes, I installed a metal exterior junction box at my first location. So I was looking for a way to use the same holes with anchors for a box better suited for camera...

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

I like that. Happen to have one of those laying around except it has four ears. I prefer the two ears in the image you attached. Those may even match the holes for the round box I had put in, after tapping in plastic anchors into the soffit. Thanks. Just checked - Holes on the round two-ear...

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

Could try a spade bit, aka paddle bit. For larger holes, a hole saw may be useful. Also depends on material you are sawing through and condition of bit.

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

Three photos to share related to soffit. First shows two holes in the soffit. Original hole through which the romex and ethernet were in a romex connector together in one exterior box, and the new hole through which I pulled the ethernet cable Second shows second exterior junction box around...

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

Two stills/"snapshots" to share out of BI, a night shot and the same frame in daylight. Top third /left third corner of shot is arrival, so this location may call for a long lens camera. Top right corner of shot shows an eave just making it into frame, that has ethernet wire and is another...

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

Thanks - will try to improvise a solution along these lines. My soffit is fiber cement (Hardy plank), and is brittle. Perhaps a solution is a husky block made of exterior grade wood, painted, and mounted to the soffit (preferably on framing behind the soffit), It will be more forgiving of holes...

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

I was hoping there might be a base plate (or something) that one can mount, to which different camera boxes can be mounted. Would have been great if there was a universal box to mount cameras on, but so far I am understanding that the mounting box varies for each camera. Changing boxes means...

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

I have a T5442T-ZE up on a test rig. Soon cameras will go up on eaves soffits where I already have ethernet. What would be a good way to terminate the ethernet where I have it already at eaves soffits? Specifically, what mounting box or arrangement might be suitable to provide flexibility to...

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

Now time to start learning Blue Iris. Repurposed an under-utilized i5-6500 build from several years ago, did a clean install of Windows 10, and clean install of BI. This way I can review footage and do some live testing. No-light is the principal challenge at my site.

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

Made a test rig from materials already at hand, to get a 5442 to a height of 8 feet 6 inches. Test rig has the vertical 2x4 at one side so the camera can be placed right up to the wall where a permanent install might be. Ran a bright color patch cable from soffit junction box to camera, casually...

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

Right now the focus is to get cameras operational, later, if desired I could replace the exterior cable with nifty in-wall or interior solutions.

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

By way of clarification - ethernet cable is already at soffit, in a junction box adjacent to the box the twin-head light fixture is on. This is a typical condition around the house. I am trying to go down vertically around six feet, and prefer to run cable outside, rather than conduit or molding...

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

It is outdoor rated, but not direct burial. As you said, the jacket is a bit heavier and I'm hoping it will be UV resistant, though time will tell how it holds up over time. Aside: PFB mount just arrived, your input in other thread "Dahua turret mount comparison? " was timely and helpful...

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

I appreciate that you are sharing your thinking. Some years ago when I was building this house I knew enough to ask my electrical sub to run me quite a few ethernet runs in the house. I guessed that about half would get used lightly or not at all, and at many places I would wish I had run more...
