Need 2 new cameras - HDW2231R-ZS still good?

I get confused with model numbers, but there is a Series 2 version of the 2231 that does better than the original: https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/review-oem-ipc-t2231t-zs-2mp-varifocal-starlight-camera.43194/

    Dahua IPC-HDW5442 cam model difference

Both of those cameras use the same image sensor/lens. Where they differ is how they act when it gets dark outside. At night, the TM-AS switches to B/W mode and turns on the built-in IR lights (which human eyes can't see). The TM-AS-LED remains in color mode and turns on the white LED lights...

If you haven't already run across this tool, it can be be helpful with visualizing new cameras: http://ipvm.com/calculator It'll let you drop a camera on a Google Maps image of your property and then show you estimated images as you drag a little digital dude around your property. Camera lenses

The angle of view of a lens will change based on the image sensor. So a 2.8mm 5231 should have slightly different horizontal/vertical view angles vs. a 2.8mm 5442. The 5231 is EOL now. If you need a varifocal turret, check out the new varifocal 5442 turret model...

All camera streams are greenly inverted but on mobile devices and webserver

For me, it started happening irregularly on two of my cameras a month or so back. If I disable/reenable the cameras (within BI) they work fine for an indefinite amount of time. I ended up turning off hardware decoding for these two cameras. Ken mentioned something about defective video...

If you use the BI app to temporarily disable the camera, then go back in and reenable the camera, does it correct the issue?

I apologize if I'm misreading your post (it's still early for me), but when you say "focus/focus reaction", are you talking about the motion blur that can happen with slower shutter speeds?

    Dahua T5442TM-AS quick review

If you use IVS instead of Motion Detection, you can set an object's min and/or max size so that if it's too small or too big it won't trigger an event. @bigredfish's advice above is solid. If you haven't seen @wopi82's great camera tuning post here, it's probably worth a read (and bookmark) too.

Camera Faceoff: Dahua Starlight IPC-T5442TM-AS vs Hikvision ColorVu DS-2CD2347G1-LU

Yeah, since this camera will be inside the house looking outside through a window, the built-in IR will need to be disabled. I’m not sure how he’s controlling the external IR right now, but as long as it can come on when needed, the 5442 should be able to see it whereas the ColorVu (and Dahua...

Camera Faceoff: Dahua Starlight IPC-T5442TM-AS vs Hikvision ColorVu DS-2CD2347G1-LU

Granted that specs are just numbers on paper, but it doesn't sound like a big different in terms of low-light performance between the lowest 0.001 lux models (the f1.0 Hik ColorVu, Dahua -NI models) vs the next lowest 0.002 lux models (like the Dahua 5442 series). Since there is a varifocal...

Camera Faceoff: Dahua Starlight IPC-T5442TM-AS vs Hikvision ColorVu DS-2CD2347G1-LU

Oh! The Hik ColorVu and 5442TM-AS-LED can only use visible light, so the IR from the lamp outside wouldn't help them any. -NI models look to be the same, if that matters.

Camera Faceoff: Dahua Starlight IPC-T5442TM-AS vs Hikvision ColorVu DS-2CD2347G1-LU

You might have a little better luck with the bullet model, ... since you're already working through a house window, the bullet not having the plastic dome around the camera would be one less potentially reflective surface for it to go through. IPC-HFW5442T-ASE-NI Having said that, I'm not sure...

    Review-OEM 4mp AI Cam IPC-T5442TM-AS Starlight+

Most folks find IVS is more accurate than motion detection, especially in terms of fewer false events. That said, neither are 100% accurate so the best practice is to continuously record + record on motion detection/IVS. A lot of us (me included) have learned the hard way that if you're just...

    Newbie assistance

With Blue Iris, it's easy to have all of the recordings go into one folder on the HDD and then have the oldest recordings be overwritten after the folder hits a certain size. As for feeding a camera into the PC, the usual way is via a PoE switch, which is a network switch capable of sending...

    Newbie assistance

Some things to consider: If you're not familiar with PoE, it's possible to run power over ethernet cables, so you'll probably only need to wire an ethernet cable to the camera. Motion detection on cameras (even the pro-grade Dahua/Hik models that folks here use the most) isn't 100% accurate...

Cores vs Threads vs base Freq?

If you're considering Blue Iris and haven't seen it already, it's got a newish feature that utilizes cameras lower-resolution sub-streams for motion detection while recording the main stream (full resolution) directly to disk. From the threads I've seen, it looks to significantly lower...

Draw Rule is where you draw a line(s) on the screen that tells the camera which areas the rule (tripwire, intrusion zone) applies to. Draw Target lets you draw a temporary box on the screen for the purpose of figuring out the pixel size for target min/max sizes (if used). For example, if you...

Looking for better nighttime performance between those 5 cameras

You can use the Color lux rating to get a rough idea of how the cameras are likely to perform at night. 0.008 lux = DS-2CD2345FWD-I 0.012 lux = DS-2CD2346G1-I 0.009 lux = DS-2CD2365FWD-I 0.018 lux = DS-2CD2343G0-I (4MP) 0.028 lux = DS-2CD2363G0-I (6MP) You'll probably need to do a forum search...

Camera Faceoff: Dahua Starlight IPC-T5442TM-AS vs Hikvision ColorVu DS-2CD2347G1-LU

I would guess that spec sheet should say 0.005 lux, not 0.0005. The ColorVu should be 0.001 lux, and most 5442 models are 0.002 lux. Dahua seems to be introducing some 5442 -NI models that are f1.0 like the ColorVu, also with 0.001 lux. Someone mentioned that the ColorVu really does have a...

If you haven't run across it already, there's some great image tuning info in this thread. Common issues with camera image | IP Cam Talk My guess is that increasing the shutter speed will help reduce the blur on the owl. The tradeoff is that increased shutter speeds lower the amount of light...

Camera Faceoff: Dahua Starlight IPC-T5442TM-AS vs Hikvision ColorVu DS-2CD2347G1-LU

If the flood lights will be always-on at night, neither camera will need to use its built-in lighting. Since both cameras use the same image sensor, the image quality should be similar. If the flood lights are motion sensor activated, remember that the camera will be temporarily blinded when...
