    IVS option missing

Wait a minute, isn't IVS supposed to be easier than just using motion detection? Or is it so much more complicated to allow you to customize to a much greater depth than just using motion detection? The info above is making my head hurt... :)

Feed two PoE cameras with one network cable

Thanks, it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve gotten the facts backwards. Appreciate the recalibration.

Feed two PoE cameras with one network cable

If I used the switch, then I wouldn’t be connecting the cameras to the dedicated Poe ports on the NVR. I prefer to have them isolated that way. I didn’t think a few dropped packets was a big deal for streaming surveillance video. In any case, I expect it to be a temporary thing anyway.

    VPN Primer for Noobs

It sounds like your Lorax app is still using p2p which will require internet access. If you’re using a vpn, then you should be trying to connect directly to your NVR and not out to a P2P server.

Feed two PoE cameras with one network cable

I agree that running 2 cables is always better. But, I have one spot I’m not sure yet if I want to use 2 cameras so as a quick and dirty solution I picked up a pair of these, and they are working fine so far. https://www.amazon.com/WT-MMF-RJ45-Ethernet-Cable-Combiner-Splitter/dp/B01N806BN2

Unable to get motion detection to work

Thanks Looney, I have a Dahua NVR and 4 Dahua camera’s (so far) connected to the Poe ports on the NVR. Is there any decent documentation or tutorials that explains how to setup IVS? I don’t recall seeing it in the wiki.

    New Amazon shop

That originally concerned me as well, until I started comparing prices from Andy vs buying from a US distributor. Andy's prices and fast service is awesome. I will be placing my 3rd order soon.

    VPN on demand with iDMSS

Yes, it does seem a bit more complicated than I had hoped, but the value it provides if it does what I “think” it will do would make it worth setting up. I’m trying to make it as easy as possible for someone to connect to an NVR and view cameras remotely. Some people (like my wife) won’t...

    VPN on demand with iDMSS

I’m now interested in this topic, so I’m reviving it. I found out about this “feature” only this morning. I had been using my new Asus router as a vpn server to get to my internal network to view NVR cams. It worked, but you had to remember to start and stop the vpn, or all traffic would go...

    Tapatalk weirdness?

I use Tapatalk to read this forum, and others and normally I cruise the “unread” items to see what’s been posted since my last visit. It seems that about 20% of the time, when I click on a topic to view, Tapatalk opens a different topic instead. Anyone else experience this?

Birth of my first patch cable

If the cat 6 is cheaper you may be looking at copper clad aluminum (CCA) wire instead of solid copper wire.

Birth of my first patch cable

Thanks TonyR, I have used the 2 piece connectors at work a few years ago and found that with the angled cut it was much easier to thread the wires. It took a while to make that discovery, lots of trial and error. They were also staggered like in your pic and I remember the wires feeding into...

Birth of my first patch cable

Thanks, but I'm sure I have the correct items, maybe the Ideal Industries products are not the best ones to use, but that's what Lowes had in stock when I needed more connectors recently and noticed the new pass through types. I bought the tool and some Cat5e and Cat6 connectors. They work...

Birth of my first patch cable

It was a bit of a pain stuffing the wires thru the connectors so I figure the everso slightly smaller wires will be just a hair easier. Every little bit helps.

Birth of my first patch cable

I got a 1000 ft box of cat 6 solid copper UTP from monoprice because that’s the source that was recommended in the cliff notes. After running some cable and attaching rj45 connectors I think next time I’ll get the thinner 24 awg instead of the 23 awg. It will be easier to work with, especially...

    Are dome camera covers replaceable?

Hello, I’m replacing an old cctv system in my business with a Dahua NVR and IP cameras. I’m stuck at the dome vs turret question. Yes, I’ve done the searches and know that generally turrets are better in almost all circumstances. But, in one indoor location i will have about a dozen ceiling...

Unable to get motion detection to work

Thanks looney. Is IVS an NVR or camera function? Or does it involve both? I guess it’s time to head back to the search function. When I first looked into it, it seemed much more complicated than just turning on motion recording.

Feed two PoE cameras with one network cable

If I understand correctly you have to use the cable sharing technique if you want to be able to plug both cameras into the dedicated POE ports on the back of the NVR, is that right? I didn’t think the NVR would recognize more than one camera per port on that side. The 1x4 splitter/sharer...

Birth of my first patch cable

I recently discovered the new (to me) pass through RJ45 connectors and Ideal Industries crimp tool that cuts off the excess wires when it crimps the connector. They make the job so much easier that I “almost” enjoy making/terminating my own cables now. They are well worth the extra cost to me...

Unable to get motion detection to work

I am also having this problem with the same NVR but different cameras. I hope to experiment more over the weekend to try and figure it out. I’ll be watching this thread to see what I should try. I want to record both full time, and also identify motion in specific areas of the cameras view.

How to Tell if my NVR is PAL vs NTSC

I don’t seem to have this option on mine, I just got a Dahua NVR5216-16P-4KS2E from Andy. How can I check if it’s ntsc or pal? Thanks.
