    New Dahua LPR

I went with the Z4 version since it has the higher zoom. I'm getting reads at about 150ft easily in the far lane of traffic on the 7442 from where the camera is mounted. The close lane of traffic passes right by the camera so it does not have to work to hard at that. I also have a 5241 for...

    New Dahua LPR

I am using OpenALPR. I find it superior to anything I've used, including the Milestone Xprotect LPR. Between two traffic cameras it catches about 100,000 plates a week. Its a commercial install so we need the search history, etc.

    New Dahua LPR

I have the same camera doing high speed LPR, except its the Z4 version so it has more of a zoom. Definitely ask Andy for a firmware update, there are new ones. Check your shutter speed as well, 1/1000 or 1/2000 is where I noticed a drastic uptick in how efficient OpenALPR grabbed plates...

Recommended computer for ALPR with 2 cameras?

I have some info on NVidia cards - I have a Dell Optiplex with an I7-7700 running open alpr. The CPU handles it fine, but I have some bigger projects coming up and I wanted to test an Nvidia in this one since the computer is easily accessible and the future ones will be on telephone poles. I...

Recommended computer for ALPR with 2 cameras?

It probably will work fine. I was working with OpenALPR tech support on a software issue and they said the they are optimized for Intel CPU's. But for one camera I don't see it stressing that CPU.

    Short LPR setup with IPC-HDW5231R-ZE

Just wanted to get a quick opinion on this. I have a rather quick install coming up that is bit of a rush job. I have two cameras on hand for it. I normally use the IPC-7442-Z4's for LPR, however I that might be a bit overkill. I have a IPC-HDW5231R-ZE turret and IPC-B5442E-ZE on hand. Both...

    Mobile LPR

I know this might be a bit out of scope on this forum, but I figured I'd give it a shot for some feedback. Has anyone ever mounted some of the standard LPR cameras we use here to a car and done mobile LPR that way? I've been looking at the Rekor mobile LPR setups for some cars, but the lack of...

Review - Dahua IPC-HFW7442H-Z 4MP Ultra AI Varifocal Bullet Camera

Yes, if the new switch doesn't help it then I'll do the wire as well, but will need the whole bucket truck and police setup. Unfortunately I can't get a fluke on both ends of the wire, but with it on one side it didn't show any shorts.

Review - Dahua IPC-HFW7442H-Z 4MP Ultra AI Varifocal Bullet Camera

So a bit more information on this. Tuesday I had our building and grounds guys throw the breaker to the pole, which killed power to the switch. This should have power cycled the camera the same as unplugging it from the switch. No change at all, camera was still down. The previous two times...

Review - Dahua IPC-HFW7442H-Z 4MP Ultra AI Varifocal Bullet Camera

Sorry for the delay on getting back to you guys, the camera seems to have completely died now, instead of just the regular freezing up and able to be power cycled. Have to get a bucket truck to get it down.

Review - Dahua IPC-HFW7442H-Z 4MP Ultra AI Varifocal Bullet Camera

It just started with the firmware upgrade on the camera, before there was no issue. I am going to play with the connection strings today and see if there is any difference, and also try the new version that has been released of the openalpr. Also will try a factory default and then reconfigure...

Review - Dahua IPC-HFW7442H-Z 4MP Ultra AI Varifocal Bullet Camera

I did a bit more investigative work on this - See the video here. On the left hand side is the openalpr config, and on the right is the dahua live view. It seems to be specific to openalpr. I have an open ticket with them already, but I am wondering if one of the new settings is messing with...

Review - Dahua IPC-HFW7442H-Z 4MP Ultra AI Varifocal Bullet Camera

I should also add, the camera froze up 2 times, and I had to power cycle via unplugging the camera and back in which is why we did the firmware upgrade.

Review - Dahua IPC-HFW7442H-Z 4MP Ultra AI Varifocal Bullet Camera

I just ran the first firmware he sent, then was showing an algorithm mismatch error in the settings and he sent me another one to apply which resolved that mismatch error. I haven't done a factory reset, I don't think he said it had to be done, but I can give that a try. There is a multitude...

    OpenALPR New Release - 2.8.101

I'm running into something similiar, after after doing an firmware upgrade on a Dahua camera I'm using for LPR. I can't confirm yet if its an OpenALPR issue or an issue with the firmware Andy gave me. Its only happening on reads in the right lane, and not consistently. I'm NOT on the latest...

Rave to OpenALPR - A World Record?

+1 on openalpr. Its outstanding compared to other software. I mostly deal in Milestone but there is no comparison between OpenALPR and Milestone LPR. Not even a fair fight.

Review - Dahua IPC-HFW7442H-Z 4MP Ultra AI Varifocal Bullet Camera

I updated the firmware on this camera to the newest version provided by Andy. I'm seeing alot of greying out on video capture now in OpenALPR. Is anyone else seeing or experiencing this? It seems to only happen to cars in the right lane, cars captured in the left lane seem to be perfectly...

Question on Dahua IPC-T2231T-ZS second stream

For anyone who has a Dahua IPC-T2231T-ZS, could you tell me if it has a second stream resolution higher than the 704x568 resolution? The past models in this range didn't, had to move up to the higher end to get that option. Curious if possibly they may have added it before I order. Thanks,

    Review-Dahua IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E AI Varifocal Bullet

So I played with the settings a bit more, it seems to grey this out when day/night is selected under profile management. If I go back to general those options are available, but then it seems I lose the ability to change the exposure and such on the night time profile. Is this a firmware bug...

    Review-Dahua IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E AI Varifocal Bullet

Is anyone elses day/night options greyed out on this camera? I'm trying to force it to B/W in the night time profile for LPR, and they are greyed out. It is greyed out in all profiles.

    Review-Dahua IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E AI Varifocal Bullet

Thanks @looney2ns , My question was more related to this specific camera. I have a 7442 on a main road here that gets about 60,000 plate reads a week, and gets near perfect at night too. Just want trying to skate by an easier situation with a camera that was half the price.

    Review-Dahua IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E AI Varifocal Bullet

Luckily I'm going to be only shooting 50' or so from the mount point to where I'm catching license plate at a controlled entrance point (two big pillars make sure of that) so I shouldn't need to zoom all the way in on this one. Hoping to get by with this instead of having to go up to the 7442...

    Review-Dahua IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E AI Varifocal Bullet

Yes, the 7442 I have has the 5-64mm lens. No focus issues at all at night or when switching. On this one I would not be anywhere near the max zoom on the range. I just want to make sure that the profiles do switch on this one as well.

    Review-Dahua IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E AI Varifocal Bullet

Could @looney2ns or anyone else confirm that the day/night profile options work on this and you do not need the dahua sunset/sunrise app? I have a pretty easy LPR shot, and I think the 7442 I used for a heavy use road LPR (and it is awesome) may be overkill in this. I just want to make sure...

Milestone Alarm Input / outputs - digital i/o

That does sound correct, and you'd just add a rule(s) to move cameras when that event is triggered. That part is easy, just getting the event there is the hard part. When you do that, the rules are easy to make it do whatever you want.

Milestone Alarm Input / outputs - digital i/o

You'll see inputs when you add a camera, and then you can relate an event to that. I think @jpwade is right with using generic events. If that event is triggered, you create a rule that moves whatever camera(s) you want, starts recording, increases FPS, etc. Everything in Milestone is rule...

    Cheapest Hardware for Milestone

I would say the nvidia acceleration is much more important for the mobile server, and the smart client when viewing cameras, which it takes advantage of on all versions. I haven't seen motion detection cause much cpu usage even on recording servers with 30 cameras at 20 fps on each camera...

    Cheapest Hardware for Milestone

@AveryFreeman I have plenty of Essentials+ installs that are running H.265 and hardware acceleration. Your setup won't have any hardware acceleration available on the recording side likely since they are vCPU's. It definitely does support the Intel HD and Nvidia hardware acceleration for smart...
