    POE Switch Question

Nothing too fancy, at least until I learn more, but to start, I want to pass time server info to devices that otherwise don’t get to see the web and letting a video stream and doorbell notifications to go to my phone from a camera that otherwise doesn’t get to leave its subnet. I like that...

    POE Switch Question

I started by using the switch to connect the cameras with my dual-NIC Blue Iris computer. That worked fine to give the cameras their own network away from the internet. Now I’m venturing into more sub nets for wireless light switches, a second camera network and an alarm system. So I need...

    Camera App. question

Yes, some cameras vary in the formula, so the poster could try some variations. A few years ago, I saw a document with the formulas different cameras use. Someone who’s interested could search for it in the discussions and probably find it quickly.

    Camera App. question

    I found I could send VM format (Chinese board cameras from ebay) to VLC and BI via RTSP stream. rtsp:/username:password@192.168.x.x:554 /cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0&authbasic={AUTH64}

    POE Switch Question

Not sure about Ciscos, but the Alcatels have a good GUi, though you have to do some digging in the CLI to enable it. I’m not very smart about this stuff, but I found a bunch of good vids on YT to walk through configuration and just did what I was told.

    POE Switch Question

+1 on using older switches that have become obsolete for business or government. I have some Alcatel Lucent OS6450s that the county shed for $5 to $10 each. Gigabit ports with 10G uplinks, POE+, stackable so you can add them together and they function as a single switch. These are overkill...

    blue Iris OS

A lot of the Small Form Factor computers that people like for bare metal BI installs have built-in windows keys that self-authenticate when windows sets up. I wonder if you could load Proxmox as the OS and transfer the computer’s built-in windows key to the VM?

POE Switch but for wider operating temperatures? (mount in the uninsulated attic)

Perle is a maker of industrial ethernet switches. They claim 75c as within spec. https://www.perle.com/products/switches/industrial-ethernet-switch.shtml I’d look for a cheap old server switch with a fan and put it as close to a vent as you can. Try it and see how it does, and if it fries...

Waterproof Junction for 4 strings of POE?

Put some plastic or edpm shower pan around the conduit below the wires and mound the dirt to get water to move away from the wires toward the edges. Drill vent holes in the rock.

Install camera in existing light housing?

Can’t speak to the code/danger element, but anytime a/c power is near a signal cable, there’s a danger of signal interference. They say not to run the cables next to each other and to cross at right angles if necessary.

    LOL...Anyone still running XP?

Will windows 10 be like that in November ‘25? One wonders if there isn’t a little department in the basement at Microsoft churning out the viruses that will force us all to abandon W10 when they decide it’s time.

Install camera in existing light housing?

You might think about getting a one or two watt led bulb for the lamp and just leaving it on all night. You would be able to keep the camera in color mode, and I’ve read, at least, that lights are a deterrent.

How to get in to the camera settings

There’s a HIK password reset tool somewhere on the Ipcamtalk site. I’m not familiar with Hik cameras, but if you can’t find the pw, you should be able to use the tool to do a hard reset.

Install camera in existing light housing?

Not at all. Just saying in the time we’ve taken to discuss it, he could have mounted it and seen if it’s an actual problem for his situation.

How to get in to the camera settings

Might have to do a hard reset on the camera if you can’t recover the pw.

Install camera in existing light housing?

You can get a blank plate to fit that junction box at the hardware store. Mount the camera base to the plate and try it. One test is worth a thousand theories.

    Possible DJI Drone Ban?

I bought a dji drone to get aerial shots on a trip a few years ago, and it really ups the look of home movies when you can open with a wide aerial shot. I think the regulation has gone too far, especially for small ones that can’t do much damage if they fall.

Need a little integration advice to monitor an area

If you try the camera in both spots and aren’t happy, think about using it somewhere else and putting a wide angle camera on the corner between the doors. Dahua 4k-t color, or IPC-HDBW5441F-AS-E2 boobie cam, perhaps. The 4k-t color would be my first choice.

How to build a functional system that deters crime?

People / cars should not normally be coming within 10 feet or so of your entrance gate. I’m presuming authorized cars stop at a key pad or something and wait while the gate opens. So if your camera allows a trip wire zone between the normal place cars stop and the gate, you should be able to...

How to view multiple IP camera streams in a single custom HTML page?

OBS studio would work. Kind of overkill. One of my favorite programs. Works on any of the big 3 operating systems. You didn’t mention what operating system, or perhaps I missed it. If linux, this is a pretty good viewing program: https://snapcraft.io/cctv-viewer If windows, get Blue Iris.

    Door lock system with keypad

I’ve noticed several of these in commercial use since I started paying attention. The fact that they’re inexpensive and generic isn’t necessarily a disqualification.

    Door lock system with keypad

Yes, these are definitely on the simple/cheap end. I mention them more for future readers than the OP. They are controlling a fairly low security area, where the ups guy can drop packages, and they are effective at keeping riff-raff and porch pirates out. They’re sturdy and made for exterior...

    Door lock system with keypad

I put in a couple of these to control our garden gates. The’ve been in for a year or two with no problems. I believe they will communicate with a server (Wiegand output?) to do audits, though I didn’t do that. I installed them myself so no great complexity. https://a.co/d/3BpWfDX...
